He knew Yvaine's character too well. She simply wasn't capable of something so sleazy.

Ryan turned around, only to find Zachary awake, staring at him blankly from the hospital bed, an IV dripping into his arm.

Had Zachary heard that entire conversation?

Ryan walked over, clearing his throat. "How are you feeling?"

"I'm not dead," Zachary rasped coldly.

Ryan choked on his retort.

"If I had shown up five minutes later, that might not be true," he snapped back.

Zachary kept his face hardened and didn't respond.

Ryan was used to his god-awful temper and brushed it off.

"Who were you on the phone with just now?" Zachary demanded.

Ryan shot him a look. He was playing dumb.

He had literally said Yvaine's name out loud.

"Just a friend," Ryan lied smoothly.

Seeing the dark scowl form on Zachary's face, Ryan smirked.

Zachary wasn't the only one who knew how to be intentionally irritating.

He could play that game, too.

Just as he was about to admit it was Yvaine, his phone buzzed with a message.

He tapped it open.

His eyes widened, shock washing over his face.

He slowly raised his head, staring at Zachary in absolute disbelief.

The text was from a mutual friend in their circle.

Friend: *Ryan, what the hell is going on? Why did Yvaine marry that Silas Sheridan guy from Docksy?!*

Zachary frowned at his expression. "Why are you staring at me like that?"

Ryan pressed his lips together, furiously typing a reply: *What kind of garbage are you spouting?*

Friend: *I'm not making it up! Zachary asked me to check the system to see if they were legally married. I just pulled the records. Yvaine and Silas actually got a marriage license!*

Ryan: *...*

Friend: *Seriously, what happened? Wasn't she Zachary's girl? Weren't they perfectly fine just a few days ago?*

Ryan didn't bother replying. He slowly looked up at the man in the hospital bed.

Now he understood exactly why Zachary had practically drunk himself to death.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" Zachary snapped impatiently.
