It was surprisingly refreshing.
She suddenly understood why men didn't find the 'innocent sweetheart' act entirely repulsive.
Because... when Silas did it, she didn't hate it at all!
Yvaine smiled faintly and nodded. "You make a very fair point. It really wouldn't be appropriate for you to see him right now."
"You should just head home. I'll go visit him alone."
She kept her smile perfectly bright.
She watched out of the corner of her eye as Silas's grip on the steering wheel tightened until his knuckles turned white.
Her smile deepened.
Silas snapped his head to look at her.
Yvaine instantly neutralized her expression, returning his stare blankly.
His handsome face remained entirely stoic as he gave a curt nod. "Fine."
He steered the car toward the hospital.
As for which hospital... he already knew exactly where it was.
He might be new to Brenok, but he had his own powerful network of informants.
"Let's stop to buy something first," Yvaine suggested. "It's rude to visit a patient empty-handed."
"Right," Silas replied flatly.
*Heh...*
*Look how incredibly thoughtful she is.*

He pulled up to an upscale gift shop.
The store sold premium health supplements and luxury fruit baskets.
Yvaine browsed meticulously.
Silas trailed behind her, his face like thunder.
She picked out several boxes of expensive supplements and then moved to the fruit section, carefully inspecting the premium selections.
She inspected them one by one, taking her time.
Silas stood silently beside her, refusing to speak.
It took her a while to finalize her choices and head to the register.
By all societal rules, this was the moment Silas was supposed to pull out his card and pay.
He didn't move an inch.
Who the hell did Zachary Lowell think he was?
