I have been trying to reach Liliana but couldn’t connect. Next I tried reaching out to Stefa, my point man, and it was the same thing.

Cassandra was back, trying her best to get me to calm down, but it wasn’t working.

It was then I realized something I had been missing; I had always thought the reason I was so drawn in by Liliana was because she was my mate, that I couldn’t resist the mate bond, but that wasn’t so.

I was in love with Liliana, simple as that.

It took her absence for me to figure it out for myself. I had always taken her feelings for me for granted, but now I was beginning to

understand what it actually was.

I looked at Cassandra, expecting to feel even a bit of affection, but it wasn’t forthcoming, which confused me more.

I had originally believed Cassandra meant more to me than an alliance between my pack and her father’s, but I seriously doubted it now.

And with that doubt came other doubts.

I stood up from the bed and pulled on my trousers before going to sit on the chair at the corner of the room.

Cassandra sat up in bed, giving me a puzzled look.

“What’s wrong, Ger?” she asked, gathering the sheets to cover her naked bosom.

I regarded her with quiet and suspicious eyes.

“We need to talk.” I told her. She got up from the bed, discarding the linen, and moved towards the bathroom.

Done with her business, she came back and sat on the edge of the bed facing me, still naked.

I took a cursory look at her, taking in her nakedness and expecting my body to react to her full naked glory as it once did, but I felt

nothing.

I sighed and focused back on her face.

“Promise me you will be honest with me.”

She squinted at me. “What’s all this about all of a sudden?”

“Wolfsbane.” I said, simply watching her face closely.

Her expression remained blank. It was either she didn’t really know anything and was innocent, or she was a totally good actress.

“What about wolfsbane?” she inquired innocently.

I didn’t know if I should believe her portrayed innocence or doubt it entirely, as I was beginning to doubt so many things about her.

“You see, the doctor found traces of wolfsbane and brothsdome in Liliana’s system after I brought her to the hospital. That had been what made her lose her baby… our baby.” I explained I was still studying her.

There was still no reaction.

“And what has that got to do with me?” she demanded, frowning.

“Wolfsbane can only be gotten in the northern region… your father’s territory.” I went on.

“What are you implying? Spit it out.”
