Chapter 239
She was speechless, her fingers pausing over the zipper of her jeans. “That still doesn’t prove anything, Gerald, and you know it.”
“No, I agree, it doesn’t. But I found out something interesting.” I continued.
I deliberately kept quiet after that.

“Are you going to tell what you found out, or do I have to guess what’s going on in your head?” Cassandra asked, her patience obviously
running thin.
I indulged her. “The only person who was noted to have taken any wolfsbane of recent was you. Care to tell me what that’s about?”
I saw her mouth working, but no word came out. I waited, giving her time to gather her thoughts, and still she said nothing.
Instead, she picked up her handbag and moved towards the door with the intention of walking off.
“Cassandra, you haven’t said anything.” I called out to her.
She ignored me, opening the door and stepping out. A few seconds later, she came back and leaned against the doorframe.
“What do you want me to say?” she said.
“A little clarification would be nice.” I said back with a shrug.
She bit on her lower lip and sucked it in as she thought.
“OK, yes, I admit it. I did take some wolfsbane along with me the last time I was there.” She confessed.
I didn’t reply, just waited for her to go on.
“But that doesn’t mean I’m involved with whatever happened to her.”
“What happened to the wolfsbane?” I quizzed her.
She rummaged in her handbag and brought out a bottle, holding it out for me to see.
“This is it. I had it crushed and placed in this spray can for protection. It’s for self-defense.” She said.
I frowned at her. “You expect me to actually believe that?”
“Whether you believe me or not is up to you. If you have nothing else to say, I’m out of this place. I feel suffocated with all these suspicions.” She said, turning around to walk out the door.

Chapter 239
“There is a man.” I blurted out, remembering what Liliana had said in the hospital.
🙂
Once more she halted her steps and turned around slowly to face me. Her face was still blank.
“What do you mean? What man are you talking about, and how does it concern me?”
I shrugged as if I didn’t actually believe it myself. “Well, Liliana claimed she saw a man, and she was sure if we found him, we would be
able to prove you are guilty.”
She threw her hands in the air, rolling her eyes. “This is just so unbelievable. So you actually believe her over me? Gerald, for God’s sake,
we have known each other since we were kids.”
That much was true. My dad, the former alpha, had formed an allegiance with her father, and the agreement was that we got engaged at that young age to be married later.
So that means I’ve known her practically my whole life.
I mentally scolded myself for even doubting her at all. I smacked myselfon the head and walked to her and hugged her to myself.
