My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 1225

Andrew’s voice was deep, the kind of serious that even a phone couldn’t soften.

Amelia’s heart skipped, then thudded hard. She clenched her jaw, shot a look at the maid, and finally took the phone. “Yeah, I’m here. What’s up, Andrew?”

“A car will pick you up in five minutes. You’re coming over,” he said.

Amelia felt her chest tighten. “Can’t we talk about this now? I... I’m tired. I just want to sleep.”

“It’s eight thirty,” Andrew replied, sounding calm and unbothered. “You never go to bed this early. Since when do you sleep before midnight?”

His voice stayed even, but it had this grip on her, like he could reach right through the phone and squeeze her heart. She clutched the phone, wishing she could just throw it away.

She tried again. “Andrew, can we do this tomorrow? I’m really wiped out today…”

“The car will be there soon. Get ready and come downstairs,” he said, his tone final. No room to argue.

Amelia shut her eyes, teeth pressed together, and let herself give in. “Andrew, I know I messed up, okay? The whole Dennis thing was my fault. I swear I won’t do it again. Please, don’t be mad. Just yell at me over the phone or something…”

Her voice softened, almost pleading. “You know I was just looking out for Dennis. And he’s fine, isn’t he? Nothing happened. Please don’t make me come out just so you can lecture me. I’m still your sister, after all…”

Andrew didn’t say a word. He just hung up.

Amelia tossed the phone back to the maid, covered her face with both hands, and let out a long, heavy sigh.

The maid quietly left the room.

Looking defeated, Amelia got up, pulled on something warm, and wrapped herself in a long down coat, gloves, and a scarf pulled up over her mouth.

Downstairs, Kevin was still in the living room. “Where are you off to this late?” he asked, sounding casual.
