My Hidden Identity His Hidden Affair (Sharon) novel Chapter 5

Back in the bedroom at Glory Garden, Sharon felt chills to the bone, barely able to stay on her feet.

She clung to her last ounce of strength, fumbling with the lock on a drawer that hadn't been opened in ages.

When she pulled it open, a pile of "memories" came spilling out.

A heart-shaped pebble.

A faded postcard.

An old Beatles vinyl record.

A silver chain Gary had clumsily made for her years ago...

And a stack of letters tied with a ribbon—"love letters" he'd once written to her.

Every single thing she'd once cherished like a treasure.

But what she'd seen with her own eyes a few days back made all these memories feel fake and cheap—like one big joke.

All lies. Five whole years of lies.

Why bother keeping this garbage?

Her face was blank as she swept everything into the trash in one quick motion.

The world spun wildly in front of her eyes. Her temples throbbed so hard it felt like her head was gonna split open.

Still fully dressed, she collapsed onto the soft bed.

"Bang!"

The door crashed open with a loud bang, thrown open by brute force.

Mia, in a pink frilly dress, burst in. She ran straight for the bed and shook Sharon's arm hard with both hands.

"Get up and play horsey with me! Like last time! I wanna be the little knight!"

Her little face was all flushed from excitement.

A memory flashed through Sharon's mind—the night they'd first moved into the new house a few months back.

Lost in her dream of having a "family," she'd doted on Mia like she was her own daughter. Without a second thought, she'd dropped to her knees on the carpet and let Mia ride on her back.

That day, the more Mia bounced on her back, the more mocking Chloe's laughter sounded. But she hadn't noticed a thing—she'd been happy to play the horse.

Thinking about how she'd actually wanted to adopt Mia back then, a wave of nausea hit her hard, rising up her throat.

Sharon suddenly struggled to sit up. She stared straight at Mia's face in front of her, her voice dry and hoarse.

"Mia... have I been good to you?"

"Yes! You're the best ever!" Mia nodded, then added in a hurry, "If you could be my mom, that'd be even better!"

Sharon tried her best to steady her wobbly body, pretending to be confused.

"But... you already have your own mom. Why do you want me to be your mom too?"

Mia tilted her head, her voice crisp.

"Because I don't want you and Daddy to have little babies! That way, Daddy will only love me!"

She suddenly threw herself into Sharon's arms, wrapping her little arms tight around Sharon's neck. "Will you adopt me as your real daughter? I promise I'll be even better than a real one! When you get old, I'll make tons of money to take care of you!"

These words didn't sound like they came from a five-year-old. Someone must've taught her to say them.

Sharon's blood felt like it turned to ice right then.

A strong wave of physical disgust made her push Mia away hard.

Mia wasn't ready for it. She stumbled backward and plopped down on the carpet.
