Sharon zoomed in on the video, her eyes locking right onto the girl under Gary.
The girl was sobbing—turns out it was Coco, the pretty young model Sophia had lined up for her.
They were at some club, the background music blaring. But Sharon cranked up the volume all the way and still caught every word of their argument loud and clear.
"Mr. Colbert... I'm so scared... Your secretary's being so mean to me..." Coco whimpered, begging him to help.
"Chloe! Calm down! Mr. Larkin is still here! Let go!" Gary roared, shoving Chloe off him hard.
"Gary, I can't calm down! I just can't! You drank with her all night right in front of me! And she even sat on your lap! How do you expect me to stay calm?!"
Chloe totally lost it, scratching at him like a wild cat.
"Enough! Mr. Colbert, get your people under control first, then we'll talk about the deal!" Henry Larkin stood up in a huff and stormed out.
*****
The video cut off there.
Sharon lay back comfortably on her bed with a face mask on, a faint smile tugging at the corners of her lips.
She typed fast on her keyboard, "Sophia, add more drama—call the cops."
Sophia replied in a split second, "Haha, great minds think alike! Already called. Cops will be there any second."
Sharon sent a smiling meme.
Sophia shot back with a nice, upbeat meme.
A few minutes later...
Sophia sent over a new video—things had gotten way worse.
Coco had drunk so much she got alcohol poisoning, foaming at the mouth. An ambulance wailed over and rushed her to the hospital.
As for Gary and Chloe? Both got hauled off by the cops.
Sophia texted, "How you gonna thank me for this epic show tonight?"
Sharon replied, "Once I'm free, a two-week trip to anywhere—my treat."
"You really gonna divorce him? Can you actually let go?"
Sharon paused for a sec, then grinned and replied, "Of course."
Putting her phone down, Sharon felt her eyes itching. Must be the changing seasons—her conjunctivitis was flaring up again.
She just turned her phone off, put in some eye drops, and lay down with her eyes closed.
Her mind was totally at peace, and she drifted off to sleep in no time.
In the middle of the night, someone banged on her door like crazy.
Sharon rubbed her throbbing temples, got up, and opened the door. Mary burst in, panicking.
"Mrs. Colbert! Something terrible happened! Mr. Colbert and Ms. Lopez got arrested! The police called—they want you to come right away!"
Sharon yawned, her face calm as ever. "Yeah, got it."
Mary stared at her, worried. "It's so late. Should I go with you? If you're mad, you can take it out on me—I don't mind."
Sharon smiled. "No need for that."
Mary could tell something was off and wanted to say more, but Sharon had already turned to grab clothes from the closet.
Mary changed too and waited downstairs for ages before Sharon finally came down.
Her eyes were swollen—it made Mary's heart ache.
The two rushed to the police station.
Sharon talked to the cops calmly, signed all the papers calmly, then stood quietly by the door, waiting for Gary and Chloe to come out.
Gary's clothes were torn, his face and neck covered in bright red scratch marks.
Chloe's hair was a tangled mess, her expensive suit stained with wine, her makeup smudged all over her face.
Both of them looked like total wrecks.
Sharon glanced at them casually, said nothing, and turned to leave.
Gary panicked. He hurried after her and grabbed her hand. "Sharon, let me explain..."
Sharon looked at him calmly, her eyes red and swollen. "Too many people here. We'll talk at home."
She didn't get mad, didn't grill him in public. Because if she did, she'd look just as irrational as Chloe.
She played the part of a proper, patient victim as well as she could.
The more she acted like this, the guiltier Gary felt.
And the guiltier he felt, the more it would hurt when she left him.
On the way home...
