My Hidden Identity His Hidden Affair (Sharon) novel Chapter 7

Gary took a deep breath, pushing down the tightness in his chest, and lay down next to Sharon.

"The company's gotten bigger and bigger, and I'm busier than ever. I barely have time for you anymore." His voice was low, laced with a forced softness.

"Is there any gift you want? Anything at all—I wanna make it up to you."

Houses, cars, jewelry, bags—those were the things most women went for.

But Sharon had never lacked any of that growing up. She had it all, so none of it mattered to her.

What she truly valued was a man's sincere heart.

And Gary's sincere heart? It was long gone—thrown away like trash.

"Hmm..." Sharon hesitated for a second, her voice light and faint.

"I don't want anything. But about the company's legal rep... I originally planned to transfer it to you on our fifth anniversary. Dealing with all the paperwork and signatures is just a hassle anyway."

Gary's heart felt like it got hit by a sledgehammer, jolting hard.

"You wanna give me the company?"

"Yeah." She nodded softly.

When she was 20, Sharon had willingly taken on the role of legal rep. She'd volunteered to guarantee a loan of over ten million, taking all the risks for Gary.

At 25, Sharon just wanted to leave Gary. The company, all the assets under Gary's name—none of it mattered to her.

Because money had never been what she wanted.

Her eyes locked with Gary's, and he looked guilty, his pupils shrinking. "Why do you suddenly wanna transfer the legal rep to me? Aren't you scared I'll..."

Before he could finish, his phone rang sharply.

Sharon glanced at the screen. Sure enough, it was Chloe again.

Gary stepped aside to answer. Whatever Chloe said on the other end, he jumped up immediately, grabbed his jacket, and looked frantic.

"Don't panic. Getting stressed and hurting the baby's no small thing. I'll take you to the hospital right away!"

He hurried to the door, then froze—like he just remembered something. He turned around and said, "Sharon, Chloe says her stomach hurts and she needs to go to the hospital. I'll take her."

As always, Sharon was thoughtful and sensible.

"Okay, her pregnancy comes first. Go take care of it."

Gary hesitated, then felt the need to explain again. "She's a single mom, raising a kid and pregnant again. She's got it tough. I'm just helping her out."

With that, he turned to leave.

"Gary." Sharon's voice was soft, but it hit him like a needle in the back.

"She keeps getting pregnant one after another. How come I've never met her boyfriend?"

Gary's heart skipped a beat, and he froze in his tracks.

He turned around, meeting Sharon's eyes, panic written all over his face.

"Sharon... That's her personal business. As her boss, it's not my place to pry."

A faint smile pulled at Sharon's lips, her voice still calm.

"Relax, I was just asking. Why are you so on edge? Chloe's your right-hand woman. It's only natural to care about your team. Go on."

Gary looked like he'd been let off the hook. He bolted out the door.

Sharon stood by the window, watching his black Porsche pull slowly out of the driveway with Chloe inside.

A twinge of regret hit her. Why bother?

Now that she'd made up her mind to leave, why tear off that thin fig leaf?

Adults were supposed to have unspoken understandings.

Her eyes stung. She buried her face deep in the thick curtains, her shoulders shaking silently.

Just as she was drowning in sadness, Daniel called, his voice tight with worry.

"Ms. Rincon, your test results are back. It's not good..."

Sharon's heart sank a little. "What does that mean?"

Daniel's tone was serious. "The sample shows chronic arsenic poisoning. Early symptoms are dizziness, headaches, vomiting, diarrhea, nausea..."

Sharon's blood ran cold instantly. "What did you say?!"
