My Husband's Affair My Anniversary Gift (Lily and David) novel Chapter 264

Lily laughed softly, but there was no humor in it.

“I don’t know you,” she said calmly. “I thought I did. I really thought I did.”

She looked straight at him.

“But I don’t. I was your secretary. We were married on paper. We shared a bed, yes. But we’ve been apart for seven years.”

She stepped back.

“You’re a stranger to me now. And who said I’ll marry a stranger? I’ll marry someone I know very well.”

“Now get lost,” Lily said coldly. “I need to get ready.”

She stepped back and turned away, heading toward the wardrobe, clearly done with the conversation.

Behind her, David spoke again, his voice lower, steadier than before.

“Then I’ll tell you everything,” he said. “Everything I did in the past seven years without you. If I do that… will you marry me?”

Lily stopped.

Her fingers tightened slightly at her side. For a second, she almost kept walking, pretending she hadn’t heard him. But something in his voice made her pause.

Slowly, she turned around.

He wasn’t joking.

She could see it clearly now. His face was serious, his eyes fixed on her like this was the most important thing he had ever said.

“What do you want to know?” he said quickly, taking a step closer. “I’ll tell you everything. Nothing hidden.”

He reached for her hand, like he was afraid she might disappear again.

Lily pulled away instantly.

His hand froze in the air, then dropped back to his side.

The silence between them grew heavy.

Lily didn’t know what to say. Her head felt crowded with thoughts, anger, confusion, and something she refused to name.

Without looking at him again, she walked to the wardrobe, pulled out her clothes, and started changing right there, as if he wasn’t even in the room.

David watched her without blinking.

When she slipped into a red body-hugging dress, something snapped inside him.

“You’re not going out wearing that,” he said sharply.

The dress clung to her perfectly, showing every curve. David swallowed hard, his jaw tightening.

How was he supposed to let her walk out like this? How was he supposed to let other men look at her?

“I am,” Lily replied flatly, not even turning to face him.

She adjusted the dress calmly, deliberately.

Then she finally looked at him.

“You know what?” she said, her voice firm. “You need to change this idea that you can control me.”

“Because you can’t.”

Her eyes held his for a long second, daring him to argue.

And David realized, painfully, that no matter how strong his feelings were, she wasn’t going to bend just because he wanted her to.

Lily finished with light makeup, just enough to brighten her face. She fixed her hair, checked herself once in the mirror, and grabbed her bag.

“Take care of Danish,” she said casually as she walked toward the door. “I’ll be late tonight.”

She was about to step out when footsteps came fast behind her.
