"All I need from you is a few minutes of your time to sign the papers. Whatever else you have going on has absolutely nothing to do with me."
Rebekah's crystal-clear voice was entirely stripped of warmth.
Only then did it truly hit Benjamin—when a woman's heart goes cold, she becomes utterly merciless.
"You just wait right there!"
After hanging up, Rebekah stood by the entrance of city hall, waiting.
It was an overcast day, but a few stubborn rays of sunlight managed to pierce through the thick clouds, painting gold across the concrete.
Looking up at those brilliant beams, Rebekah felt an inexplicable sense of peace. Just like that light, she was finally going to break through the suffocating darkness and start a brand-new journey.
Benjamin arrived twenty minutes later at city hall.
And he didn't come alone. Candice was right beside him.
Rebekah hadn't expected them to get there so fast. The drive from the Forrester estate to city hall should have taken at least half an hour.
Benjamin stormed up to Rebekah, a dark thundercloud hanging over his features. He didn't even look her in the eye.
"Didn't you want to sign the papers? Then hurry up!"
His impatience felt wildly forced, as if he were throwing a petty tantrum.
Candice, standing beside him, had slightly disheveled hair, flushed cheeks, and a fresh, dewy glow. It didn't take a genius to figure out exactly what the two of them had just been doing.
Rebekah internally scoffed.
Old Mr. Forrester's body wasn't even cold yet, and Benjamin was already fooling around with Candice. Talk about honoring the dead.
But she kept her mouth shut. Ignoring Candice's triumphant, gloating stare, Rebekah walked into city hall alongside Benjamin.
Signatures. Consents. Official stamps.
The process of legally severing their lives was brutally simple.
Minutes later, they walked out, each holding a burgundy divorce certificate.
Benjamin deliberately avoided looking at Rebekah the entire time, practically stomping down the steps of city hall like an angry child.
Seeing the official divorce certificates in their hands, the joy in Candice's eyes was practically overflowing.
She turned to Rebekah with a vicious smirk. "Are you sure you aren't going to regret this, sister?"
