She knew exactly how much his grandfather despised the idea of them divorcing, yet she weaponized his death to force his hand.
What a cold-blooded, vicious woman!
It was the dead of night.
He was drowning in a toxic mix of grief and absolute fury.
Suddenly, a commotion broke out in the courtyard.
The head butler rushed into the room, his face pale as he called out, "Sir, the police are here."
Benjamin whipped his head around just as two uniformed officers stepped into the doorway, their sharp, authoritative gazes locking directly onto him.
Ten minutes later.
Shawn was dragged out of bed and brought into the grand foyer.
The second he saw the police officers, the sleep instantly vanished from his eyes.
"Officer, is something wrong?"
One of the officers crouched down, offering the boy a tight, polite smile.
"Shawn, I need to ask you a question. Five months ago, you told us that your mother went out on the day of the accident. I want to ask you right now—were you telling the truth?"
Hearing the officer's question.
Shawn's mind went entirely blank.
Instinctively, he looked up at Benjamin.
Benjamin sat rigidly on the sofa. He was dressed in a sharp black suit with a white mourning band pinned to his arm, radiating an intimidating, icy authority.
He leveled a lethal glare at the officers.
"Officers, the hit-and-run case involving my wife has already been closed. Why are you dragging this back up now?"
"This afternoon, a third-party witness to the accident came into the precinct with dashcam footage. The evidence definitively proves that the driver who committed the hit-and-run five months ago was not your wife."
Benjamin's heart slammed against his ribs.
A third witness?
He had spent months deploying massive resources to find a witness and came up completely empty. How could someone suddenly walk right into the police station out of thin air?
Shawn frantically interrupted.
"You guys misunderstood my mom! Why are you here bothering us?"
The officer stood up, addressing Benjamin directly.
