**Vows Became Blame by Mark Twain**
**Chapter 10**
The freshman check-in area at Eastbridge College buzzed with an electric energy, a whirlwind of excitement and nervous anticipation. Students, clad in a kaleidoscope of colors, milled about, their chatter blending into a lively hum that filled the air like the sweet scent of blooming flowers in spring.
As soon as Sebastian and Ronald stepped foot on campus, they became the center of attention, like moths drawn to a flame. Their arrival was accompanied by a flurry of curious glances and whispers, but it was the way they doted on Tessa that truly captured everyone’s envy. She stood there, slightly embarrassed yet undeniably flattered, as they fussed over her, making her the unwitting star of the moment.
With a shy wave of her hand, Tessa urged them to move along. “You two should really go pick up Bella,” she suggested, her voice tinged with a hint of urgency. “Didn’t she say she’d make her choice today? If you don’t hurry, she might get upset and decide to stall.”
Ronald shrugged his shoulders, a nonchalant expression crossing his face. “Oh, come on, Tessa,” he replied, his tone casual. “She already made her decision, didn’t she? Bella’s not the type to go back on her word. She said she’d tell us today, and I trust her.”
Sebastian, ever the more contemplative of the duo, gave Tessa a gentle pat on the head, a gesture meant to soothe. “We’ll go get her soon,” he assured her, a warm smile gracing his lips. “She won’t be mad at us. Don’t worry.”
As they returned to the check-in area, their presence continued to draw attention, like a pair of rare birds in a crowded park. They politely declined the advances of several eager students who approached, hoping to exchange numbers or make small talk. Yet, the one person they were truly waiting for remained conspicuously absent.
“Where could Bella be?” Sebastian murmured, his brow furrowing with concern as the shadows lengthened and the sky began to darken. “Freshman check-in is almost over.”
Just then, Ronald’s voice broke through the murmur of the crowd, sharp and urgent. “Sebastian, something’s wrong!”
Startled, Sebastian shot him an irritated glance. “Why are you shouting?” he snapped, irritation flickering in his eyes.
“Bella’s house burned down!” Ronald exclaimed, his voice rising in alarm. “No wonder she didn’t show up. I’m calling her now to see where she is!”
With a sense of urgency, Ronald dialed her number, only to be met with the disheartening realization that he had been blocked. His mouth fell open in disbelief as he opened their chat and typed a message, his fingers trembling slightly. “Why did you block my number?”
