My Love Burns for Anyone Worth It novel Chapter 12

**Vows Became Blame by Mark Twain**
**Chapter 12**

The real estate agent had contemplated revealing the contract to Sebastian and Ronald, but he quickly dismissed the idea. The two were so firmly entrenched in their belief that they were dealing with criminals that even if he had shown them the document, they would have likely dismissed it as a forgery and torn it to shreds without a second thought. Even at the police station, the tension between both parties was palpable, with each side clinging stubbornly to their own narratives.

“Officer Beckmoore, these two are the arsonists! You must arrest them right now!” Sebastian’s voice was filled with indignation, his eyes blazing with a mix of anger and desperation.

The agent, feeling utterly exasperated, snatched the purchase contract from his client’s hands and slammed it onto the desk with a force that echoed through the room. “Officer, it’s all right here in black and white! These two keep throwing around accusations of forgery and fraud. We are seriously considering a defamation suit!” His voice trembled slightly, a mixture of frustration and urgency.

Alex Beckmoore, the officer on duty, took the contract and scrutinized it meticulously. After a moment, he offered both Sebastian and Ronald a weary, apologetic smile, as if he were trying to bridge the gap between their worlds. “Gentlemen, I assure you, this contract is legitimate. The signatures have been verified. And regarding the controlled burn, it simply doesn’t meet the legal criteria for arson.”

Sebastian and Ronald froze, their expressions shifting from anger to disbelief. They lunged for the contract, their hearts racing as they scanned the document with feverish intensity. The signature on the final page was unmistakably Bella’s, a name that now felt like a dagger in their hearts.

A chilling, furious laugh erupted from both men, a sound that echoed their realization of just how thoroughly Bella had deceived them. The thought of her changing her college choice, blocking them on every platform, selling the house, and orchestrating its destruction—all of it had been executed right under their noses. And yet, she had maintained the facade, promising to reveal her decision once school commenced. Who was she going to choose?

Or had she already made her choice, planning to simply vanish from their lives without a trace?

The mere thought sent a jolt of pure panic coursing through them. If they couldn’t reach Bella, what would happen to Tessa? Could they really allow her to slip away forever?

No. She couldn’t know. The weight of that thought settled heavily in the pit of Sebastian’s stomach.

Just as that realization solidified, Sebastian’s phone buzzed insistently in his pocket. Glancing at the screen, he saw Tessa’s name flash before him, and his heart lurched with a mix of hope and dread. He stepped away, urgency propelling him to answer.

“Tess, what’s going on?” he asked, trying to keep his voice steady despite the turmoil swirling inside him.

Noticing Sebastian’s sudden departure, Ronald instinctively followed, inching closer until he could hear Tessa’s voice resonating from the other end of the line.
