The Alpha was going to kill him.
Aiden, whose face was twisted with a fury James had never seen before, stormed toward him without hesitation. His fist shot out, landing hard against James’s face. The impact echoed through the garage as James staggered backward, losing his balance before crashing painfully to the ground.
A sharp groan tore from his lips.
Slowly, James lifted his head, his vision spinning. He wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth with the back of his hand, his fingers trembling. When his eyes met Aiden’s, his heart sank completely. Even without a single word spoken, he already knew.
Aiden knew everything.
“How could you hide something like that from me?” Aiden growled, his voice low and deadly. He grabbed James by the collar, hauling him up roughly before slamming him against the car. The vehicle beeped loudly in protest as James cried out in pain, his back hitting the metal hard.
“I swear, Aiden, it’s not what you think,” James rasped, his breath uneven. “It’s not… it’s not…I can explain. Please, just let me…”
His voice cracked as tears pooled in his eyes. He could see it now, the devastation, the betrayal burning in Aiden’s gaze. This was deeper than anger. This was heartbreak.
“You were supposed to be my Beta,” Aiden snarled. “How could you keep something so important from me? How could you?” His voice faltered, the rage mixing painfully with hurt. “I trusted you. I… I—”
He stopped speaking abruptly, dragging his hands down his face as if trying to hold himself together. His chest rose and fell heavily as he stared at James…bloodied, shaken, broken. James was the one person he had trusted completely. And yet, he had hidden something that had shattered his world.
At that moment, Aiden didn’t know whether to scream… or to collapse.
“I’m sorry, Aiden,” James whispered, his voice barely audible. Tears streamed freely down his cheeks now…the tears he had been holding back for far too long. “Please…”
Aiden shook his head slowly and turned away, his jaw clenched so tight it looked painful. He stood there for a second, breathing hard, before turning back to face him.
“From today henceforth,” he said coldly, “you are no longer my Beta.”
James’s eyes widened in shock. His breath caught in his throat as he swallowed into nothing.
“Aiden…”
“I want you to pack your things and leave the pack house,” Aiden continued, his voice flat, distant. “You will also leave Red Moon Pack.”
“Aiden, you can’t do this to me,” James protested weakly as he struggled to his feet, pain shooting through his body. “I’m not just your Beta. I know I was wrong, but this…this is too far.”
Aiden said nothing. He simply stood there, fists clenched so tightly his arms trembled. His wolf clawed violently beneath his skin, screaming to break free. Pain surged through his limbs as he fought to stay in control.
He turned toward his car.
James moved quickly, stepping in front of him, blocking his path.
“I’m your best friend,” James said desperately. “You can’t send me away like this. You’re my brother, Aiden. We’re brothers…we’re family.”
His eyes pleaded, silently begging.
Aiden met his gaze with a cold, merciless stare.
“Brothers don’t lie to each other,” he said.
With that, he shoved James aside and climbed into his car. The engine roared to life, and within seconds, he drove off, disappearing from sight.
Rachel, who had stood frozen throughout the entire scene, stared after Aiden’s car until it vanished. Her throat tightened as she slowly turned her gaze toward James, who was now sitting on the ground, shoulders slumped, tears filling his eyes.
“James…” she whispered, swallowing hard as she stepped closer.
