My Luna Became An Alpha After I Rejected Her novel Chapter 219

Meanwhile, Rachel, who had left James outside the hospital garage to drown alone in his pain, walked into the hospital and down the long hallway that led to Ethan’s ward.

Her footsteps slowed as she approached the door.

She wrapped her fingers around the doorknob, ready to turn it, but suddenly paused. The child wasn’t familiar with her yet, and she had no idea what she was supposed to say to him once she stepped inside. Her chest tightened at the thought.

She let out a soft sigh and slowly withdrew her hand from the doorknob. Taking a step back, she sank into the chair beside the door, her shoulders slumping slightly.

She ran her fingers through her hair, brushing it back nervously. Swallowing hard, she lifted her head when she sensed footsteps behind her…paired with a familiar scent.

Her eyes widened slightly.

It was James.

She hadn’t expected him to come inside the hospital at all. She thought he would leave…disappear the way broken men often did. She immediately stood up.

The cut at the corner of his mouth had already healed, but his eyes… his eyes looked hollow, weighed down by a pain far deeper than any physical injury. He looked like a man barely holding himself together.

“Why didn’t you go inside yet?” James asked, his voice low as his eyes met hers.

“I… I don’t think my face would be the first thing the child wants to see,” Rachel replied quietly. “Besides, we’re not familiar with each other yet.”

James studied her for a brief moment, then nodded once. Without another word, he walked toward the door. Rachel followed behind him.

She wanted to ask if he was okay.

She already knew he wouldn’t answer.

James pushed the door open and walked inside. Rachel stepped in after him. The first person they saw was Ethan’s nanny, holding a bowl of food and a spoon. The child sat on the bed, his face turned away stubbornly, lips pressed tightly together.

“You have to eat, Ethan, so you can take your drugs,” the nanny said, her voice tired and strained.

Rachel could tell this had been going on for a long time.

The nanny and Ethan hadn’t noticed them until James spoke.

“What’s going on here?” His voice was calm, but cold…carefully controlled.

The nanny turned quickly. “Beta James, Ethan is refusing to eat. He keeps saying he wants his mommy and daddy.”

Rachel’s gaze immediately drifted to Ethan. Tears filled the little boy’s eyes, threatening to spill.

“Uncle James,” Ethan cried, tears streaming down his cheeks, “where’s my daddy and my mommy?”

Rachel swallowed hard as her chest tightened painfully. The sight of a crying child always broke something inside her…dragging up memories she had spent years trying to bury.

“Ethan,” James began, his voice stiff, “your daddy is busy. He’s the Alpha of this pack, and he has responsibilities.”

He paused.

“And your mom…”

His voice caught in his throat. He couldn’t tell the child the truth. He couldn’t say she was gone. That she had been gone for a long time. And yet, lying felt just as cruel. Guilt clawed at him from the inside.

Before the silence could stretch any further, Rachel stepped forward.
