My Luna Became An Alpha After I Rejected Her novel Chapter 220

Meanwhile, the moment Ethan had drifted into sleep, James sat back for a long moment, staring at Rachel. The way she had calmed Ethan, made him eat, and finally let him rest…It had surprised him.

She had a way with children he hadn’t expected. For a brief moment, his gaze softened, appreciation and awe flickering in his eyes, but it was gone almost immediately, replaced by a hard, unreadable expression.

His mind flashed back to Aiden’s words. Take your bags. Leave Red Moon Pack.

Pain clenched his chest at the thought. He knew he had hurt Aiden by keeping the truth from him, but the truth was, he hadn’t even been sure of it himself. He hadn’t seen the result first. He inhaled deeply, trying to steady his racing heart. Aiden didn’t speak empty words…he meant what he said. If he stayed, he would be challenging the Alpha’s will. He had no choice. He had to leave.

James turned and walked out of the ward immediately. Rachel, without hesitation, rose and followed him.

“James…” she called softly as they stepped into the hallway.

He paused, his back still to her, silent.

“James…” she repeated, a little louder this time. Finally, he turned, his expression unreadable, eyes shadowed and cold.

“W…where are you going?” she stuttered, unsure. But he didn’t answer her. He only stared, a wall of silence between them. She swallowed hard, studying his face, searching for a clue.

“I’m leaving Red Moon Pack,” he said finally, his voice flat.

Rachel froze, staring at him. She knew Aiden had asked him to leave, yes, but that didn’t mean he should obey so readily. James was Aiden’s Beta…his right hand. He was supposed to stand by his side. Their eyes locked for a long, tense moment, and then James began to turn away.

“No! You can’t leave!” Rachel blurted before she even thought about it.

James froze mid-step, eyes snapping back to her.

“What do you mean I can’t leave? The Alpha asked me to—”

“Well, I’m saying you can’t leave,” Rachel said, stepping closer, courage surging through her. “As the future Luna, you can’t leave… you… you have to stay. I mean, Aiden needs you. Ethan needs you. The pack needs you. All of us… we need you.”

James blinked, lips slightly parted, stunned.

“You don’t know what you’re saying…” he muttered, incredulous.

“I do know,” she said firmly, stepping forward. “From the short time I’ve spent here, I’ve seen what you do, James. No one can replace you. Aiden might be mad, but trust me…he needs you more than you can imagine. The whole pack needs their Beta. Ethan needs his uncle…”

“You speak like you’re the Luna,” James said softly, a hint of a scoff.
