My Luna Became An Alpha After I Rejected Her novel Chapter 222

The ride to the hospital was a silent one.

Damien drove with both hands gripping the steering wheel, his knuckles tight and pale, while Arthur sat quietly at the back seat, clutching the bouquet of flowers they had picked up earlier from the flower shop. The faint scent of fresh roses filled the car, but it did nothing to calm Damien’s racing thoughts.

His mind was loud.

Too loud.

When his car finally came to a stop in front of the hospital, Damien didn’t move immediately. He remained seated, staring at the building ahead as if it were a living thing waiting to swallow him whole. His jaw clenched, his chest rising and falling heavily as his fingers tightened further around the steering wheel.

He imagined Cassia’s face.

He imagined the coldness in her eyes from that morning, the pain beneath it, the finality in her voice when she had called off the wedding. His throat tightened painfully.

What if she doesn’t want to see me?

What if she refuses to talk to me at all?

He swallowed hard and dragged in a deep breath, forcing his lungs to work. Slowly, his eyes lifted to the rearview mirror, meeting Arthur’s reflection. The little boy sat quietly, unaware of the storm raging inside Damien.

His gaze then shifted to the bouquet resting on the little boy’s hands.

“Stay here,” Damien said softly, his voice low and controlled. “I’ll be back in a bit.”

Arthur nodded obediently, hugging the flowers closer to his chest.

Damien stepped out of the car and shut the door behind him, the sound echoing louder than it should have. He walked into the hospital, his strides fast and purposeful, heading straight for Cassia’s office.

When he reached her door, he pushed it open without knocking.

Empty.

His heart dropped instantly.

The room looked untouched. The files on her desk were neatly arranged, not a single paper out of place. The chair sat exactly as she had left it the day before. It was as if she had never been there at all.

Damien stood frozen in the doorway.

A slow breath escaped him as unease crept deep into his gut. Maybe she was too busy, he told himself. Maybe she hasn’t had time to come in yet.

But the feeling wouldn’t leave.

He stepped out of the office and closed the door gently behind him. Just then, he noticed a nurse walking toward him down the hallway.

“Nurse Chloe,” he called.

She paused and turned, surprise flashing across her face. “Dr. Damien?”

He forced a polite smile. “Have you seen Doctor Cassia today?”

Chloe hesitated for half a second before answering, her smile lingering longer than necessary. She had always admired Damien, even though she knew he was with Cassia.

“I was actually going to ask you that,” she said. “Doctor Cassia hasn’t been to the hospital at all today. She was supposed to approve some patient discharges, but the other doctors took over her cases.”

Damien’s brows furrowed sharply.

She didn’t come to work?

His heartbeat spiked instantly, fear rushing through his veins. His mind spiraled as questions crashed into each other.

If she didn’t come here… then where did she go?

He thanked Nurse Chloe quickly and walked out of the hospital, his steps hurried now. As he approached his car, he pulled out his phone and dialed Cassia’s number again.
