Chapter 112
Ray felt a sudden spark of interest.
Was that Lucy’s best friend–the one she called Lindsay?
They were actually sleeping together?
Damn. Could there be something… intimate going on between them?
The thought sent a restless thrill through him. He almost wished he could reach through the phone to get a look for himself, or maybe even jump into the “action.”
Lucy really was top–tier.
He just didn’t know if she was still untouched.
After the betrayal in his marriage, Ray had grown intensely sensitive about whether a woman was a virgin or not.
“Alright. As long as I’m not dreaming, that’s good enough. Go back to sleep,” Ray said with a laugh, and decisively hung up.
On the other end, Lucy nearly lost her mind.
You wake someone up, say one thing, and then hang up? Who does that?! No way.
She was wide awake now. Lucy immediately called back–only to find she couldn’t get through.
Ray had already turned off his phone.
“Ray, you bastard!” Lucy exploded.
Finally, dawn broke.
Ray got out of bed, stretched lazily, and felt refreshed.
Crossing from the 15th into the 16th felt like stepping into a new life.
All the hesitation and anxiety were gone.
He really had been reborn.
In this life, he would live brilliantly, answer to no one, and do whatever he wanted.
Who was going to stop him?
A wicked smile curled at the corner of Ray’s lips.
So–what to do today?
His thoughts drifted to his ex–wife. Since the 15th had passed, it was time to cut loose the final knot from his past.
Mm. Time to finish her off.
Ray had no intention of going out himself. Instead, he picked up a microphone, connected it to a speaker, opened the window, and cranked the volume.
“Attention, neighbors. There is now a bounty on a woman named Lauren Gantt. Bring her to me alive, and you’ll receive two boxes of instant noodles- or an equivalent amount of food.”
With that, he quickly shut the window.

The icy wind rushing in was enough to freeze a person solid.
He remained perfectly calm, but the entire apartment complex erupted like a boiling pot.
Everyone knew that the longer this apocalypse dragged on, the scarcer food and clean water became. Compared to the first few days, two cases of instant noodles now were worth a fortune.
These supplies were enough to drive people mad.
Inside another apartment, Lauren paced back and forth, her face stormy.
She now knew for sure that Bruce was dead. Another potential ally gone. The realization filled her with bitterness and despair- but the announcement that had just echoed through the complex left her chilled to the bone, her mind reeling.
Where there’s a reward, there will always be takers.
She wasn’t Bruce. Who was afraid of her?
From this moment on, anyone could turn on her.
Who could she trust?
She turned abruptly and collided with someone.
It was Franklin.
Lauren’s heart seized when she saw the cleaver in his hand–and the murderous intent written all over his face as he opened his mouth to speak.
In that instant, she had only one thought.
Strike first.
She slashed out with the fruit knife in her hand.
Franklin didn’t resist at all. Completely unprepared, his throat was sliced open in one swift motion, blood gushing out like a fountain.
He stared at Lauren in shock, confusion flooding his expression–clearly never imagining she would attack him.
A fierce glint flashed in Lauren’s eyes as she thought, ‘If you’re heartless, don’t blame me for being ruthless! Trying to capture me and trade me to Ray for the bounty? Die.‘
Just then, two more men rushed in. Seeing the scene before them, they froze.
Lauren hurriedly explained, “Franklin was trying to capture me and turn me in to Ray! Don’t get the wrong idea!”
These two were helpers she’d recruited over the past few days. If they thought she’d murdered a companion, their little group would fall apart immediately.
They were Anthony Ballard and James Fieri–James being Rita’s husband, Snarky Guy.
They looked at the corpse on the floor, then at Lauren. Strange smiles spread across their faces.
“Pfft
”
“Hahahahaha!”
They suddenly burst into laughter, doubling over as if they’d just heard the fumtest joke in the world.

Lauren was baffled by their reaction. “What are you laughing at?”
“At you being a moron,” Anthony sneered. “The two of us were quietly planning to deliver you to Ray. We didn’t expect Franklin to overhear us. We chased him, planning to kill him, but he ran here instead. We never imagined that you’d kill the only person who was actually on your side.”
The irony was absurd.
If Franklin had lived, Lauren might’ve had a fighting chance. Two against two–even if she was a woman, desperate people fought hard. Anthony and James would’ve had to think twice. Even a narrow victory could come at a terrible cost.
But now?
Hahaha.
Lauren’s body began to tremble. She had destroyed her own last line of defense.
Now, how was one woman supposed to fight two grown men? Why had she been so impulsive? Why hadn’t she let Franklin finish speaking?
