The efficiency really was impressive.
A smile curved at Ray’s lips as he briskly opened the door.
If this had been a trap–if Snarky Guy and his companion meant to trick him into opening up so they could take him down- then there would have been only one outcome: they’d be mercilessly swallowed by the otherworldly dimension.
But instead, Snarky Guy was grinning obsequiously, bent nearly double, his face full of fawning submission.
Ray couldn’t help but sigh and think, ‘What a coward.‘
After his wife had been used, he could still smile so ingratiatingly–proof that he had surrendered from the very depths of his soul.
How utterly boring.
Ray pointed toward the two boxes of instant noodles inside the door. “Take them.”
The two men were overjoyed. They shoved Lauren inside first, then each grabbed a box of instant noodles and bolted.
Ray pressed the remote, closing the iron door, and then looked calmly at his ex–wife.
Lauren forcibly suppressed the venom in her expression and squeezed out a smile. “Ray, there are so many misunderstandings between us

Ray raised a hand, stopping her mid–sentence.
“What do you think of this place?” he asked.
Lauren looked blank for a moment. After a few seconds, she replied, “It’s… it’s wonderful. Really wonderful.”
How could it not be? Just having heating and electricity was enough to make a former starlet and wealthy socialite lower herself and beg Ray to take her in.
Only now did she finally understand what he’d been doing during those two months of renovating the villa.
Ray smiled faintly and pushed her upstairs.
When they reached the first floor, Lauren immediately spotted the roaring fireplace. The warmth here was even more intense, so much so that sweat beaded on her skin. She was still wearing thick winter clothes, but with her hands bound, she couldn’t
take them off herself.
Ray had no intention of helping.
Leo padded over, fixing Lauren with a hostile stare and letting out a low growl. If not for Ray’s command, it would have already lunged at her.
Lauren shivered.
A dog that bites doesn’t bark–and Leo clearly belonged to the category of “vicious dogs.”
Ray, however, took out a plate with a perfectly seared steak and set it down in front of Leo. “Eat.”
Leo didn’t lower its head. Its eyes never left Lauren.
In its simple mind, Lauren was an enemy. With an enemy inside the house, how could it possibly eat? It needed to protect its master. To guard its territory.
“You’re feeding steak to a dog?!” Lauren exclaimed, shocked beyond belief.

Chapter 113

What were people eating these days? Instant noodles. Crackers. Bread.
Only households with ample reserves could still afford plain white rice.
Meat? Sorry–who would stockpile large amounts of fresh meat? Even cured meat wasn’t something every household had.
And yet here Ray was, indulging a dog with steak?
Wasn’t he afraid of being cursed to death if people found out?
Ray merely smiled and sat down at the dining table, which was already laden with food.
King crab. River shrimp. Lamb soup. Braised beef…
The spread was lavish beyond words.
Could one person really finish all of this?
Wasn’t he afraid of bursting?
Such waste. Absolute waste.
