“You have a car?” Shane and Alina exclaimed in unison, their faces lighting up with excitement as they conveniently ignored the second half of Ray’s sentence.
“That’s great!” they said, practically giddy.
With a car, they could go out and search for supplies instead of slowly starving in place.
A whole month had passed. Every day, it was instant noodles, compressed biscuits, and canned food- so much that they were on the verge of throwing up at the sight of it.
“Ray, lend me your car–no, sell it to me,” Shane said grandly. “Name your price. I’ll pay you right now.
Typical rich kid. He was used to solving everything by throwing money at it.
Ray merely looked at him calmly. “First, money is useless now. Second, even if it weren’t, how exactly would you transfer it? Third, you clearly didn’t hear what I just said–I came here to settle a score with you.”
“What score?” Shane asked blankly.
Ray smiled faintly. “Shane, you really do forget easily. Back in school, you used to bully me with your gang every single day.”
Ray was an orphan, quiet and withdrawn by nature. Back in high school, Shane relied on his family’s wealth and bullied whoever he pleased. And in Shane’s eyes, who was the easiest target in class?
Obviously, the kid with no parents–Ray.
So, Shane often led his lackeys to corner Ray.
Once or twice, Ray endured it. But when Shane grew more and more excessive, Ray finally snapped.< After enduring the punches and kicks from all those lackeys, Ray locked onto Shane alone and beat him mercilessly–so badly that Shane nearly ended up in the hospital.
Afterward, even though Ray had acted in self–defense, the school still recorded a major demerit against him. He had nearly been expelled–thanks, of course, to Shane’s parents pulling strings behind the
scenes.
That incident frightened Shane badly enough that he never dared to trouble Ray again.
Nearly ten years had passed in the blink of an eye. Shane had long since forgotten the cruelty of his youth. But Ray had not.
It wasn’t that he had ever been able to seek him out before. He hadn’t even known where Shane lived.
This time, it was pure coincidence.
But since they had met–well then. It was time to settle accounts.

A look of recollection crossed Shane’s face. After a long pause, anger flared “Ray, you’ve got the nerve to talk about settling scores? You were the one who beat me up back then! I nearly ended up
hospitalized!
Ray froze for a moment.
He sneered inwardly, ‘So you’re just skipping the cause and jumping straight to the result? Right- someone like you only remembers your own suffering. As for how you bullied others, you conveniently forget all about that.”
He shook his head, “Shane, back in high school you were the school bully. You led your lackeys around, picking on people every day. How many times did you corner me–have you really forgotten? The last time, you brought a whole crowd. I’d had enough. Even knowing I’d be beaten by all of them, I still grabbed you and beat you.
“You almost ended up in the hospital. I actually did end up in one. And on top of that, I was branded with the reputation of ‘assaulting a classmate‘ and slapped with a major demerit. Have you really forgotten all of that?”
Shane tried hard to remember, but in the end, he shook his head. He truly had forgotten.

Ray said, “wait here for a moment.”
