Chapter 72
Some people said Lauren’s own son had been set up by her–designed, step by step, to die.
Why? For the compensation money.
To be able to lay hands on her own child–how poisonous did a woman have to be?
So what happened to the Gantt family could only be called karma. Evil begets evil, and villains meet their own kind. There was no room for sympathy.
Morning came. A little after ten, Ray woke up and stretched.
Waking up naturally felt wonderful.
He washed up and made breakfast. One portion for himself, one for Leo–so lavish it made your mouth water.
Without exaggeration, even Honey didn’t eat as well as Leo. After all, how could a woman meant only for casual amusement compare to a loyal dog?
They had barely finished breakfast when Ray’s phone chimed with an intrusion alert.
Someone was outside.
At first, he thought it was Honey and Amanda again, but a closer look showed it wasn’t them.
It was a woman he’d never seen before. The infrared camera rendered her face in black and white–he could tell she was beautiful, but the finer details were lost.
She was alone.
And she seemed hesitant. Her hand was raised, yet she didn’t knock. She bit her lip, looking like someone who couldn’t quite make up her mind.
A full five minutes passed before she finally knocked.
Click.
The iron door opened at once.
The woman froze for a second. But when she saw the light inside and felt the warmth spilling out, she found herself unconsciously stepping in.
The iron door shut behind her automatically.
She shivered, startled by the sound of it closing.
“Say what you came to say. Don’t beat around the bush. I don’t have that much time,” Ray said, studying her as he spoke.
In truth, time was the one thing no one lacked anymore. It wasn’t like anyone still had work to go to or meetings
to attend.

But saying it was one thing, Meaning it was another,
The woman bit her lip again, gathered her contage, and locked up at him “C–can you give me something to eat?
Ray laughed softly. “How do you know I have food here?”
“I heard it from others,” she said. “I’m really starving, And thirsty.”
That was why she’d come begging at his door. And she probably knew what she would have to give up in return- that was why she’d hesitated so long outside.
Ray appraised her.
Hmm. Her looks were decent. Not a ninety–ninety would’ve made her exceptional–but she was easily an eighty. She was much better than someone like Lauren.
She looked about twenty, young and in the prime of her life. As for her figure, it was hard to tell, wrapped up as she was in thick winter clothes.
Ray smiled. “What’s your name?”
“Emily Lyson,” she said at once. “I live in Building 16, Unit 2201. I’m not an owner here–I rent. I’m a student at Senna University, a senior this year.”
