Chapter 77
“No problem.” The only two women among the ten patted their chests confidently..
“Move out!” Wesley waved his hand, brimming with high spirits.
He was, at heart, just a salesman–good with words. He’d never imagined that one day he’d manage to talk nine people into following his command. This wasn’t organizing a dinner outing. This was killing and looting.
That made the weight of his “leadership” feel all the more substantial.
They made their way into the parking garage, using a flashlight to light the path and clear the way.
After the power outage, the garage was pitch–black even during the day. Without a flashlight, you couldn’t see a thing. At night it was worse–total darkness, even at the entrance, not a hint of light anywhere.
The ten of them had only one flashlight, so the people in back had to hold on to those in front. Otherwise, moving forward was nearly impossible.
At last, they reached the area beneath the villa.
“Brinna, Adele, it’s up to you now,” Wesley said to the two women.
Then he turned to the others. “The rest of us will find somewhere to hide.”
He swung the flashlight around, searching for a place to take cover.
In truth, it was so dark here that hiding spots were almost unnecessary. But habits died hard. The apocalypse had only been going on for six days–most people hadn’t fully adapted yet.
“Huh?” Wesley suddenly stiffened. “What the hell-”
What did he see?
Between two parked cars, there were people–some standing, some crouching. There were at least ten of
them.
Were they also lying in wait for Ray?
Then the spoils would need to be divided properly, or things could get ugly later.
Wesley smiled. “You’re here to eliminate that menace too, huh? Haha. How about we first decide how to split things after we’re done?”
He waved his hand, signaling his people to follow him.
Distribution had to be settled beforehand. Otherwise, once the job was done, the two groups would inevitably end up fighting each other to the death.
“Our numbers are about the same,” Wesley said. “So no matter how many supplies we get, we split them fifty–fifty. How about it?”
The other side said nothing.

That was a bit much.
Wesley felt irritation rising, and his nine followers were clearly unhappy too. Even if they didn’t like the proposal, did they really have to stay completely silent?
Wesley frowned. “Everyone, my offer is sincere. Even if you’re dissatisfied, we can talk it through. Is it really necessary to not say a word?”
He’d walked quite close now. The flashlight beam swept over.
Dear god-
In that instant, all ten of them were so shocked it felt like their skulls might fly off.
་
There were no people ambushing them at all.
They were corpses.
Some had obvious fatal wounds–bloody holes in their foreheads or chests. One had his throat slit, his face hacked so badly it was unrecognizable.
“Ah-!”
