My Secret Husband Is My Cold Boss novel Chapter 12

Wendy's fingers gripped the edges of the consultation file so tightly her knuckles turned white.

Was she nervous?

Sampson's brow twitched ever so slightly. After a brief pause, he gave a curt nod and pushed open the door to the consultation room.

"Yes. Please come in."

Since the patient's condition wasn't overly complex, only two doctors from the surgical department attended.

Sampson and Leo Lawrence.

"For the sake of safety and long-term prognosis, open-heart surgery is the most reliable approach."

"The patient has a congenital vascular malformation. Even if we place six stents to solve the immediate issue, the risk of requiring a second operation remains extremely high."

Sampson recommended that the patient proceed directly with a bypass.

"The patient is only forty years old. The sooner we operate, the better his recovery will be."

Riley had anticipated this outcome before they even walked in, so she wasn't surprised.

Keeping bed availability in mind, Sampson added, "I will be the lead surgeon tomorrow afternoon."

Wendy nodded. "Understood. I'll communicate the surgical plan with the family right away and arrange the transfer."

"Good." Sampson agreed.

Just as Wendy was about to stand up, he called out to her, "Dr. Gates, if you aren't too busy, could you stay and brief me on the patient's full medical history?"

Assuming the new director simply wanted to ensure his first few surgeries were flawless, Leo didn't think twice. He and Riley walked out, pulling the door shut behind them.

With the door closed, only the two of them remained in the room.

"Dr. Sanders, regarding our blind date the other day, I got the wrong person."

It was a massive misunderstanding, and Wendy felt it was crucial to clear the air immediately.

But before she could elaborate, Sampson interjected, "I take full responsibility. I apologize."

"The reason I didn't correct you at the time was that I found you to be an excellent match for my marital expectations."

"However, that is no excuse. I am sorry."

His explanation was candid, his apology straightforward. Wendy was momentarily stunned.

It had been a blind date between strangers anyway; whether it was Silas Sanders or Sampson Sanders didn't really matter.

All she cared about was her partner's attitude and commitment.

Now that Sampson had laid his cards on the table with such sincerity, Wendy wasn't about to be difficult.

She shook her head. "It's fine. As long as the outcome is good, that's all that matters."

In fact, marrying Sampson was probably a far better deal than marrying Silas would have been.
