My Secret Husband Is My Cold Boss novel Chapter 61

The coffee table, which had been a chaotic mess before bed last night, was now perfectly tidy!

Sampson was out on the balcony, working out.

...

Did this man have some sort of obsessive compulsion about clean tables?

Wendy swallowed hard and offered a greeting. "Morning."

She had assumed that after finishing the grueling aortic dissection surgery, Sampson would just crash at the hospital.

Yet, not only did this man have the energy to come home, he actually had the stamina to exercise!

Wendy walked over to the coffee table and scooped up her laptop and notebooks, hugging them to her chest.

"What time did you finish yesterday? I thought you were going to sleep in your office."

"One-thirty," Sampson replied, his brow furrowing slightly. "The on-call room is filthy."

"Unless there's a critical emergency, I won't sleep at the hospital."

His heavy, rhythmic breathing from the workout gave his voice a rugged, gravelly texture.

Wendy nodded, preparing to carry her things back to the bedroom.

"Wendy."

Seeing her heading for the bedroom with her arms full, Sampson called out.

He stepped off the elliptical and used the towel draped around his neck to wipe his sweat.

"Take your things to the study. The desk is big enough for both of us to work."

"The coffee table is too low. It'll ruin your posture."

But the study was far too pristine. It intimidated her.

Wendy didn't move.

Sampson glanced at her, instantly reading her mind, and let out a low chuckle.

"Put them in the study. I didn't clean up last night just to make you feel bad."

His gaze dropped to the notebooks clutched in her arms. "Those are loose-leaf binders. You're going to lose a page if the wind blows."

"Use the study however you like. I won't mess with your things."

With that promise from Sampson, the heavy burden of guilt instantly evaporated from Wendy's mind.

Breakfast consisted of toasted bagels and fried eggs.

Knowing Sampson hadn't slept much, Wendy swapped his usual glass of milk for an iced Americano.

Wendy had always handled breakfast, so tonight's dinner fell to Sampson.

Wendy was in her room, video chatting with Jade.

She completely missed the sound of the doorbell.

It wasn't until Sampson knocked on her door to remind her, "Wendy, you have a package."

Only then did she push the door open and step out.

It was the swimsuit Jade had bought her.

The boutique packaging was exquisite, tied off with a perfectly symmetrical silk ribbon.

Ever since medical school, she hadn't had the time to go swimming, and it had been years since she received such a beautiful swimsuit.

Wendy figured that since Jade knew she loved a soft pastel yellow, she must have picked it out specifically to match her tastes...

She couldn't wait to open the box—

Smack!

Weren't these supposed to be matching bestie outfits?

She had clearly placed entirely too much trust in Jade.
