My Secret Husband Is My Cold Boss novel Chapter 75

To accommodate Wendy's schedule, Kimberly moved the birthday dinner to Saturday, which was Wendy's day off.

Wendy pre-ordered a cake.

"Just a cake isn't appropriate."

Before they left, Sampson had his driver deliver several high-end gift boxes.

He had been swamped at the hospital recently and didn't have time to shop, so he asked Winona to prepare them.

Perhaps because Kimberly had given Willa a stern warning beforehand, Willa's attitude was noticeably less hostile when Wendy and Sampson walked through the door.

Aside from Wyatt, everyone was home.

Wendy made the introductions. "Mom, Walter, this is Sampson Sanders."

"Ah, Wendy's husband. Have a seat."

Walter greeted Sampson politely, gesturing to the sofa.

The housekeeper brought out tea, and Kimberly pushed a cup toward Sampson.

They exchanged standard, polite pleasantries.

Then, they got straight to the point.

Kimberly smiled thinly. "Wendy is so independent. You two went ahead and got married before we even had a chance to meet you."

"How did you two meet?"

Sampson glanced at Wendy. Seeing she had no objections, he answered honestly.

"A blind date."

"Oh, did a department director set you up?"

Kimberly asked, "Are you a doctor too, Sampson?"

Sampson nodded. "Cardiothoracic Surgery."

Both were in the cardiac center. So Wendy hadn't been lying about having a doctor boyfriend. Kimberly secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

Plastering on a fake smile, she said, "Being doctors is wonderful. That way, you two have plenty of common ground in your private lives."

Kimberly continued, "Wendy mentioned that cardiothoracic training takes a long time. Are you a new hire? Have you made Chief Resident yet?"

"No," Sampson replied.

Kimberly's expression soured instantly.

He looked about the same age as Wendy. If he hadn't secured a Chief Resident spot by now, he'd be stuck as an ordinary Attending Physician forever!

She hid her disdain by taking a slow sip of tea, buying time to compose herself.

She probed further, "So, what does your family do..."

Wendy had felt uncomfortable the moment Kimberly started interrogating him like an FBI agent.

When her mother started digging into Sampson's family, Wendy finally snapped.

This time, Sampson didn't wait for Wendy to speak.

He looked directly at Kimberly, his posture still impeccably polite and refined.

"Wendy is very busy, so we'll be leaving now."

With the mood ruined, Kimberly couldn't force them to stay for dinner. She simply nodded.

She offered a weak excuse. "Then come back when the hospital isn't so busy."

"We won't."

Sampson's tone was calm and unhurried.

He looked toward Willa in the corner.

"Ms. Watson severely lacks manners. It wouldn't be pleasant to dine together."

Everyone in this house normally walked on eggshells around Willa, catering to her every whim. For a complete stranger to scold her so bluntly was unheard of.

Willa's face flushed crimson instantly, looking as though she had been slapped across the cheek.

"Excuse me? What is that supposed to mean?!"

Ignoring her shrill screech, Sampson took Wendy's hand and turned toward the door.

"Mom! Who the hell does he think he is, coming into our house and lecturing me?! Dad!"
