Chapter 185
Hannah’s POV
Donatello stood in front of the mirror for far too long for comfort.
He kept turning left and right with a bright smile on his face as he checked himself out.
He then moved towards his closet to pick out his tic. “I heard your sister has a preference for green. Are you sure of what shade?”
His question caused irritation to flare up inside me like a wave. I clicked my tongue and sat on his bed, my emotions clear on my face.
Donatello looked at me through the mirror and smiled. “You can be so adorable when you are jealous. Relax. I only want to strike a blow at Axel, not actually touch her.”
Donatello thought I was a fool and did not see how he looked at Chloe.
No matter how effective a man was as a tool, he became useless once a woman got into the picture.
Once he messed up and crossed the line with Chloe, Axel would definitely kill him and be branded a murderer like his mate. Then, it would be time for Jax and I to reap the rewards.
Speaking of Jax, my phone buzzed against my thigh.
He sent me pictures of two boxes of chocolate.
Hannah, Dad just paid me for last week’s work. Which one do you want?
The edge of my lips lifted.
Jax was an unambitious idiot most of the time but he knew how to make a woman feel special. In my entire time mated to Axel, he had never bought me chocolate or flowers once.
When I remembered that he had not also done that for Chloe, my smile widened.
He was still as unromantic as a block of wood.
“Poor girl,” I muttered through my chuckles as I typed my response back to Jax.
Tonight, there was a final dinner planned to celebrate the mating ceremony before all the guests returned home.
It was so funny that Axel and Chloe would not be able to attend because she was still under house arrest.
When Dominic and I got into the guest hall where the dinner was being held, it was deadly silent.
My smile faltered a bit when everyone started talking amongst themselves and asking where Chloe was.
“What is the point of this dinner if the couple in question is not even here?”
“Just goes to show how much the Alpha does not value his heir and his heir’s mate.”
“I heard Luna Diane was not even coming. What a mess.”
My palms pressed flat against my dress as I walked into the room, forcing a calm smile onto my face.
“Good evening, everyone,” I said and received nothing more than polite nods in response.

Most of the guests simply ignored me like they did not want to be associated with me at all.
She actually has the audacity to smile at her own sister’s mating ceremony after accusing her of killing her child.”
“I just know there is something fishy about this situation. I’m just not sure yet.”
“Come on. Don’t be so insensitive. What kind of woman would kill her owtr child because of a feud?”
The murmurs continued on and on. As the night progressed, the content of the gossip changed.
Though Jax had joined me at some point during the dinner, no other member of the Alpha family had attended not even Alpha Paul.
It was getting difficult to keep my head high as Jax tried to handle the situation by assuring them that his father was likely on his way.
Alpha Paul showed up towards the end. Only that he was hardly dressed in formal clothing.
He wore the same clothes that he had worn for work in the morning, looking like he had not slept a wink in two days.
Near the doors, he greeted a few Alphas, apologized for his absence in a hushed tone and was about to turn right around to leave when Jax called out to him.
Jax rushed to his father and grabbed his hand. “Dad, is something wrong? You and Mum should have been here hours ago.”
Alpha Paul looked too exhausted to even argue with his son. “Your mother and I are busy with some things. I am sure you can handle things here.”
One of the Alphas decided to be bold enough and ask.
“Paul, was there really any reason for this dinner? The couple in question are not even present.”
I hid my smile as I got to my feet, rushing over. “Alpha, I know that Chloe and Axel have messed up recently so that is why they had to be punished but after all, this is their mating ceremony dinner-”
“They did not want to attend,” Luna Silvia said as she walked into the room, holding a file like an office director.” They are enjoying their honeymoon and send their apologies to all the Alphas and Lunas gathered here.”
Alpha Paul turned towards Luna Silvia, taking an involuntary step in her direction. “What about Diane-”
Luna Silvia’s eyes sharpened slightly and Alpha Paul fell silent.
As he was still thinking of what to say, he reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone. The longer he read, the whiter his face went.
At the same time, notification sounds started to go off in all directions.
The murmurs in the hall rose to loud, panicked noise as fingers started to fly across screens.
Donatello rushed into the guest hall, his clothing disheveled. His eyes were searching for me.
