Chapter 186
Chloe’s POV

Axel and I hung in a hammock tied to a tree behind the cabin, watching the stars in the night sky.
Well, I was watching them. He simply lay beside me, his head in my bosom.
My mind was running with all of the things that had happened over the last few days.
Liam should have detonated the news by now and I could imagine the panic in the guest hall as everyone saw their money draining before their eyes.
I could see Hannah’s expression and David’s panic as their entire life savings went down the drain. All of her gloating would be flashing before her eyes, coming back to haunt her.
Somehow, it still did not feel enough.
“Axel, do you think I am too cruel sometimes?” I asked him, my fingers tapping my thigh.
He did not say anything for a few seconds so I thought he had not heard my question. “I do not really care if you are,” he finally said. “If you decided to do something like this, those bastards deserve it.”
I could tell that he was thinking back to the Crane family as well.
“Do you like me taking charge like this?” I asked him, lifting his head so I could look at his face as he answered. “I mean…don’t men all have that thing where they want to be needed?”
Axel snorted, pressing his lips together to prevent his laughter from escaping.
I frowned at that response, wondering what was so funny that I said.
“Chloe, I never thought these kinds of thoughts crossed your mind,” he said, shaking his head as he lay down beside me again.
“What? You think an intelligent, decisive woman would be an intimidation to my ego? What kind of man did you fall in love with?”
Axel said it so casually that I had no other choice but to believe him.
Most Alphas did not even let their Lunas have personalities; they remained extensions of their Alpha mates.
Axel not only lets me go rogue, but throws his full weight behind me.
Now, as his father and many allied Alphas to the pack must be having a massive stroke because of the Regali news, he was cuddling with me like all was right with the world.
“You’re so weird,” I muttered, cupping his cheek.
He grinned, pressing his lips to my neck..”You love me,” he muttered.
“That I do,” I said and kissed him. Before it could get any heated, I pulled away, sitting up so I could brush my hair out of my face. “We should get ready to welcome our guests.”
The words had barely left my lips when fists slammed hard against the door of the cabin.
When Axel and I got into the cabin, we saw Luna Diane standing at the door, staring at Alpha Paul on the other side.

“Diane,” she whispered and she turned around like she did not see him, walking back to her bedroom inside the cabin..
He tried to follow her but was quickly blocked by Axel. “Is there a reason that you are here, Father?”
Alpha Paul’s eyes kept darting past us to the back where his mate was. “I…I came because of the news I saw about the Regali family. Chloe, was it you that did that?”
My head tilted. Even now, he was still putting on airs and could not tell the truth and say that he came to see his
mate.
I only hoped that he came to his senses before he lost his woman.
“What news?” I asked him calmly.
Alpha Paul looked irritated for a moment and then, his gaze darted to his son. “Never mind. That is not important,” he said.
“Then, why did you come here?” Axel asked. “I hope you do not mind me hurrying you along. You must have guests to attend to tonight.”
There was a loud growl in the distance, interrupting the conversation. Somehow, I knew it was Donatello and it sounded like he was on his way here with company.
I smirked and leaned against the door, waiting for him to arrive at the cabin. “Axel, you might as well let your father in. We will be receiving a lot more guests that will crowd the doorway.”
Alpha Paul had just settled at the dining table when Donatello burst into the clearing, already shifted into his wolf. He lowered to the ground, growling deep from his chest as he looked like he wanted to pounce.
The disrespect roused my wolf from her resting place and she shot to the surface of my consciousness, releasing a growl that had even the Alphas behind me flinching.
I walked down the stairs of the cabin to face Donatello. “Shift,” I ordered, authority seeping into my voice like second instinct.
Donatello shrunk away, shaking his head. My claws extended from my fingers and I grabbed his wolf by the neck. ” I told you to shift, Regali,” I hissed slowly.
It took a few seconds but Donatello could no longer resist the command. As his body returned to human form against his will, he looked up at me through pain-filled eyes.
“You…you’re not just an orphan,” he muttered.
I smirked. “What gave that away?”
