Chapter 187

Chloe’s POV

“That look on your face. Who is going to die this time?”

I looked up from my musing and saw Nicola walking towards me. He wore a large cap to cover his face like a face cap was going to hide that stature of his.

“I am thinking,” I replied: I was lying face-first on a bench outside in the sun, staring at the ground as I thought

“Of how to murder someone?” He sat down on the floor beside me, nodding like I had revealed some truth to him. “I understand.”

I rolled my eyes though he did have a point. I was thinking of the best way to ruin someone.

Right now, I could imagine Hannah was panicking quite a lot.

Her number one backer had been ruined overnight and she had lost all of her savings in one fell swoop.

Soon enough, either Kovalsky or Regali was going to find out that she was involved with them both and they would do their best to cause her even more trouble.

In simpler terms, she was in for a lot of suffering.

However, I had still not cleared my name. The problem was that if I released more evidence now, everyone would tie the Regali scandal to me.

That was not the kind of attention I needed to be garnering right now.

I glanced at Nicola from the corner of my eye. He was watching me with a hint of fascination.

“I wonder what goes on in that big brain of yours,” he muttered.

It made me scrunch my nose in disgust. To think I had been about to ask this idiot for advice.

Nicola tapped my head. “You do not have to worry too much about yourself, Your Highness. You do realize that no one is thinking about you in the meantime.”

My head tilted. He had a point.

With so much money on the line, no one would be thinking about me. Hannah definitely would not be drawing

attention to herself now.

I was about to thank him for his insight when I realized that he should not be on pack lands in the first place. Though most of the Alphas and Lunas had not yet gone home in the aftermath of all that happened, Nicola was not invited to the ceremony in the first place.

“You keep walking in and out of Everdeen territory like it is your backyard,” I said, my tone scolding. “What do you want this time? Sandra does not want to see you.”

Nicola visibly winced at my last sentence but did not comment more on it. “This time around, I did not come for Sandra.”

He brought out a large envelope from his jacket and gave it to me. “His royal sistercon had me deliver this to you by express courier. Had me running through the night like an animal.”

I took the file from Nicola and opened it. My eyes lit up when I read through the content.

Finally, Mara and Victor could settle down.

he old fogies finally approved it?” I asked, wondering if Liam had simply bypassed his father and gone ahead to register the agency under the royal family’s name.

Nicola hummed, “Yeah. It seemed Regali pushed them over the edge. They all said that you had amazing business sense and it would be a loss for the kingdom if it is not utilized…”

Nicola trailed off, waiting for me to fill in what he did not say by himself.

“I am not going to the palace,” I said, shutting the idea down before it could even become a conversation.

He sighed like I was being unreasonable. “Come on, look at this BS that your pack keeps on pulling with you every fortnight or so. You think they would do any of that if you were in the palace?”

“And Axel?” I said, looking down at Nicola. “What happens to Axel when I go with you?”

Nicola’s gaze fell to my neck and he looked away. “Why did you do that in the first place? You know that you cannot erase a mark.”

“Go back and tell Liam that I truly appreciate him and all that he does for me but this is non-negotiable.” I paused. “Let me guess. You have him on call right now and he can hear this conversation.”

Nicola blinked and then burst into laughter, bringing his phone out of his pocket.

“I told you she was going to figure it out,” Nicola said, teasing Liam.

Liam was on video call, his hands covering his face. I could tell that his face was very red though I could not see so many parts of it.

“Hi, Liam,” I said calmly. I had to remind myself that he was not childish at nineteen years old. I was the one who was mentally ten years older.

Liam took a few more moments to compose himself before replying. “Hey, Pooh Bear. Are you okay? Do you need an assassin or a hot prince to come to your rescue?”

I could not help but crack a smile. “I promise I am fine. The honeymoon has been great.”

“She spent it orchestrating a family’s bankruptcy but all in a day’s work,” Nicola added sarcastically. “I suppose there must have been good sex too.”

“Do I want to know what you two are talking about?”

Nicola jumped to his feet when he heard Axel behind him. “Young Alpha. I never got to wish you congratulations on your-”

“Spare me,” Axel cut in. “What are you doing in my pack again?”

Nicola started to explain frantically to Axel, making me wonder if the two of them had met in other circumstances that I was not aware of.

Though, it did not make sense to come to the conclusion that the assassin king was scared or deferential to Axel in

some way.

I stood and entered the cabin as they talked. As I crossed the door, I paused and turned to my left.
