My Unborn Baby Chose My Husband for Me novel Chapter 149

For the past few days, Seraphina had been going to the Simmons Group headquarters to handle business.

Thanks to her aggressive interventions, the company was finally stabilizing. It lacked its former glory, but at least the operations were running smoothly again.

Seraphina breathed a sigh of relief. She had finally protected her grandfather's life's work.

However, she knew Samuel Simmons and Zelda Gates wouldn't give up that easily. They were already plotting in the shadows.

Because she was in her second trimester, Seraphina's priority was keeping her stress levels low. She had no desire to start a corporate war with them right now.

But if they pushed their luck, she wouldn't hesitate to crush them.

That evening, Lucian came home and handed Seraphina an elegant invitation.

"There's a high-society charity auction this weekend. It's for a good cause. If you're bored sitting around the house, you should go check it out."

Seraphina inspected the card. The gold-leaf lettering and heavy cardstock screamed luxury.

Since Lucian had been personally invited, and it was a charitable event, she knew it would be a bad look for them not to participate.

Coincidentally, Tiffany called her about the exact same event.

She had received an invitation too, so the two agreed to go together.

Tiffany was practically shrieking through the phone. "Seraphina! You're going too? Thank God! I've been bored out of my skull. I desperately needed a plus-one!"

Seraphina laughed and agreed.

After hanging up, she opened the invitation to read the details.

The charity auction was co-hosted by several of Capital City's top billionaire families, raising funds for children's education in impoverished areas.

The guest list was a who's-who of the city's elite. They called it a charity event, but it was nothing more than a high-stakes social battleground.

Lucian walked out of his room in a fresh change of clothes and noticed her still staring at the card. "If you don't want to go, you don't have to. I'll just have my assistant make a donation."

Seraphina shook her head. "I'll go. I need to get out of the house anyway."

She really had been feeling a bit cooped up.

Lucian gave a brief "Yeah" and turned toward his study.

Watching his retreating back, a soft smile touched her lips.

The man never said the words, but he was always quietly looking out for her.
