Seraphina paused for a second before a genuine smile spread across her face.
Little Bean howled in triumph. "Ahhh! Dad's finally figuring it out! Mommy, tell him! Tell him you want hotpot! BBQ! Spicy noodles!"
All the things Little Bean craved.
Seraphina pressed the record button, a laugh in her voice. "Anything is fine."
Setting her phone down, she watched the city streets roll by, feeling a profound sense of warmth in her chest.
...
At the Sullivan estate.
Sebastian came home uncharacteristically early.
The moment he walked through the door, he saw Victoria sitting in the living room, looking incredibly displeased.
"Mom, why are you sitting in the dark?"
Victoria frowned deeply. "Sienna went to the hospital today. Severe abdominal cramps."
"What happened?"
"The doctor said she's exhausted and needs strict bed rest. That girl... I've told her time and time again to stop coming over here every single day, but she wouldn't listen. Now she's nearly worked herself into a miscarriage."
Sebastian remained silent for a long moment. "Where is she now?"
"She went home to rest." Victoria gave her son a pointed look. "Sebastian, have you been neglecting her? She's carrying your child. The least you can do is check on her."
"I know, Mom."
Instead of heading to his room, Sebastian grabbed his car keys and walked right back out the door.
His mother was right. He hadn't seen Sienna in a very long time.
Work had been absolutely suffocating.
He hadn't had a single second to think about anything else.
Securing The Eastside Plot had brought an unprecedented amount of pressure.
He was starting to panic.
He was currently buried in the planning phase.
His car pulled up in front of a sleek house.
Sebastian rang the doorbell.
