Meanwhile, Sebastian Sullivan stared at the text from Sienna, a deep scowl etching into his forehead.
Melody Monroe. He was well aware of who she was.
The Monroe family might not have the absolute supremacy of the Langfords, but they were unquestionably second in command within the capital's hierarchy.
The problem was, why on earth would Melody Monroe go out of her way to help him?
Sienna claimed it was because Melody detested Seraphina's behavior.
It was a plausible excuse, sure, but it still felt flimsy.
A woman of Melody's caliber didn't need to lower herself into this kind of petty mudslinging.
Unable to shake his doubts, Sebastian dialed Sienna's number.
She picked up on the first ring. "Sebastian."
His tone was guarded. "Yeah."
"Are you absolutely certain Melody is serious about this?"
Sienna's voice radiated confidence. "Of course I'm certain!"
"She told me to my face! The Monroes are pushing into the new energy sector, and their goals align perfectly with yours. It's a win-win for everyone."
Sebastian paused. "Did she say anything else?"
There was a brief hesitation on the line before Sienna continued. "Sebastian, you know the Monroes and Langfords go way back. Melody and Lucian grew up together. Isn't it totally normal that she'd be disgusted by Seraphina making a public spectacle of herself at the expo?"
Sebastian didn't argue with that logic.
Sienna pressed her advantage. "Sebastian, the Monroe family is offering us a lifeline. Don't overthink this! This is our best shot at turning everything around."
Sebastian finally interrupted her.
"Sienna."
"Yes?" she asked eagerly.
"Set up the meeting. I'll hear what she has to say."
He could hear the sharp exhale of relief on the other end. "I'll text her right now!"
After hanging up, Sebastian still felt a nagging sense of unease, though he couldn't pinpoint the source.
Whatever.
He'd just have to play it by ear.
