My Unborn Baby Chose My Husband for Me novel Chapter 279

"Ah, Landon. I've heard a lot about you," Melody quickly regained her composure. "It's an honor."

"An honor? I'm guessing none of what you heard was particularly flattering," Landon remarked with a half-smile.

Melody neither confirmed nor denied it, simply holding his gaze with detached poise.

The night breeze swept past, lifting the edge of her slip dress and exposing her pale legs, giving her a fragile, shivering appearance.

Landon paused for a second before shrugging off his suit jacket and casually offering it to her.

"Put this on. Don't freeze to death."

Melody hesitated for a fraction of a second before accepting it, draping the heavy fabric over her shoulders.

The jacket carried a faint trace of his scent—not the sharp, freezing cologne Lucian always wore, but something far more bold and untamed.

"Thank you," she murmured, pulling the lapels closer. A rush of warmth spread from her shoulders down to her fingertips.

"So, Ms. Monroe, what brings you out here tonight?"

"I came for Jules's birthday party," Melody replied smoothly. "I assume you know Jules?"

"This city's social circle is tiny. You bump into the same people everywhere," Landon chuckled. "Besides, Jules and my cousin are practically brothers. Of course I know him."

He mentioned Lucian with casual ease, but Melody's sharp instincts caught the fleeting, dark glint in his eyes.

The rumors said the two branches of the Langford family were constantly at each other's throats. It seemed the gossip was entirely accurate.

"You and your cousin..." Melody probed carefully.

"Don't get along? Everyone in our circle knows. There's no point in hiding it."

His blatant honesty left Melody momentarily speechless.

"Let me give you a ride, Ms. Monroe. It's late, and it isn't safe for you to be out alone."

"No need. I'll call a driver," Melody declined flatly.
