"You had quite a bit to drink tonight, didn't you? You smell like a liquor cabinet."
Melody's lips curved upward in a bitter, self-deprecating smile. "You've got a sharp nose, Landon."
"Occupational hazard," Landon chuckled effortlessly. "Spent a few years abroad tasting every bottle under the sun. One sniff is all it takes to know what someone's been pouring."
"Oh? Care to guess what I was pouring?" Melody challenged effortlessly.
Landon turned his head, flashing a confident grin as he drawled, "Red. Bordeaux. A decent vintage too—at least fifteen years old. Am I close?"
Melody froze.
He was dead on.
"Seems you've done your fair share of drinking abroad," she remarked smoothly.
"Life is short. Might as well enjoy the ride," Landon replied breezily, before shifting his tone. "Unlike my cousin. He lives such an exhausting life, calculating every single move he makes."
The conversation had circled back to Lucian.
Melody remained silent for a beat before suddenly asking, "What kind of person do you think your cousin is?"
Landon took his time answering, his voice remarkably calm. "He's a very capable man. The fact that The Langford Group is practically untouchable right now proves that. However—"
He paused, a meaningful smirk playing on his lips. "He's way too cold. Though now that he's married, I imagine there's exactly one person he isn't cold to."
Melody's eyelid twitched violently.
She knew exactly who Landon was talking about.
Seraphina.
The woman who had stolen Lucian away.
Landon kept talking, completely unbothered by her silence. "I'm actually incredibly curious about this wife of his. What kind of woman does it take to finally pin him down? Do you know her, Ms. Monroe?"
Having just returned, he hadn't yet met Seraphina.
But judging by his parents' bitter complaints, Lucian worshipped the ground this woman walked on.
Landon's curiosity was heavily piqued.
It was definitely time to arrange a little meet-and-greet.
Anyone capable of making Lucian Langford fall in love had to have some fatal flaw he could exploit.
