My Unborn Baby Chose My Husband for Me novel Chapter 283

By the time Seraphina finished washing up and made her way downstairs, Lucian was already seated at the dining table. He was scrolling through his phone, a mug of black coffee in front of him alongside a freshly laid out breakfast spread courtesy of Susan.

"You're up." He lifted his head, his gaze softening instantly. "Did you sleep well?"

"I did." She shuffled over and lowered herself into her chair.

Susan hurried over to serve her portion.

She set down a bowl of warm, sweet oatmeal, a plate of fresh fruit, and a couple of boiled eggs.

"I made the oatmeal nice and thick today, Mrs. Langford. Try it," Susan said with a warm smile.

Seraphina took a spoonful and nodded. "It's delicious."

Lucian smiled and took a sip of his coffee before speaking up. "Just a heads-up. We're having dinner at the manor tonight."

She paused, spoon hovering mid-air, and glanced at him. "Why the sudden family dinner?"

They had just visited not long ago. Grandma Eleanor had even insisted she stay put and avoid unnecessary travel given her heavy stomach.

Unless it was an absolute emergency, she wasn't supposed to return to the estate until after she gave birth.

"It was Eleanor's call," he replied flatly. "Lawrence's son, Landon, is back in town. She wants the whole family together to welcome him home."

Landon.

The name definitely rang a bell.

The sole heir to the second branch of the Langford family. From what she'd heard, he'd spent the last three years abroad and had only recently returned.

"I've heard some rumors about him." She stirred her oatmeal, a thoughtful look crossing her face. "People say he's—"

"A useless playboy who only cares about partying?" Lucian finished her sentence, a cynical smirk playing on his lips. "Yeah, that's the general consensus in our circles."

She caught the slight hesitation in his tone. "You don't buy it?"

He didn't answer immediately. After a brief pause, he said, "Landon isn't that simple. For the past three years, he's put up this grand facade of being a degenerate trust-fund kid, but no one actually knows what he was doing over there."

"Are you saying it's all an act?" She put down her spoon, giving him her full attention.

It certainly wasn't out of the realm of possibility.

"Hard to say." His gaze darkened slightly. "But one thing is certain: he's nothing like Lawrence and Charlene. He doesn't wear his ambitions on his sleeve. That makes him infinitely more dangerous."
