She was in the final stages of her pregnancy; he should have been glued to her side.

They were still a week out from the due date; he never anticipated it would happen so violently and without warning.

"They're... loading me in now. Susan is right here," Seraphina gasped out, the words fragmented by the crushing agony. "Don't worry... we'll be at the hospital in no time."

"I'm on my way right now."

"Okay." She let out a soft, strained breath. "Don't... don't drive like a maniac. Be safe."

Lucian ended the call, his grip on the phone so tight his knuckles drained of blood.

The elevator chimed at the subterranean executive garage. He sprinted to his sports car, vaulted into the driver's seat, and punched the ignition.

The engine roared to life, and the car violently launched out of the parking structure.
