Lucian stormed into the room, his designer suit jacket discarded somewhere along the way, his crisp dress shirt rolled up to the elbows, and his face slick with sweat.
It was glaringly obvious he had driven like a madman to get there.
His predatory gaze swept the chaotic room before locking onto Seraphina thrashing on the bed.
"Sera."
He crossed the room in three massive strides, enveloping her trembling hand in his.
The sheer relief shattered Seraphina's composure, and hot tears spilled down her cheeks.
"You made it."
"I'm here." His voice was wrecked with raw emotion. He leaned down, pressing a desperate kiss to her damp forehead, his tone dropping into a fierce, unshakeable vow. "Don't be afraid. I am right here."
Seraphina bit her lip and nodded fiercely.
His hand was incredibly warm, anchoring her to reality and pouring raw strength back into her exhausted body.
"Sir, we need you to step back slightly so the doctors can work," a nurse politely, yet firmly, instructed.
Lucian refused to release his grip, smoothly shifting his stance to grant the medical team access without ever letting go of his wife.
A fresh, brutal contraction hit.
Seraphina thrashed in blinding agony, her nails gripping his hand with crushing force.
Lucian didn't even flinch, willingly absorbing every ounce of her pain.
With his free hand, he continuously brushed the sweat-drenched hair from her face.
"Breathe with me, Sera. Follow my voice... inhale... and exhale..."
His voice was a beacon of unnatural calm in the storm, acting as her ultimate anchor, completely smothering her panic.
The medical team worked in a hyper-focused frenzy around them.
Little Bean's voice whimpered in her mind again. "Mommy, I really want to come out... but I'm so scared..."
Seraphina sent a surge of pure love back to him. "Don't be scared. We are both right here waiting for you. The second you open your eyes, you'll see how much your dad and I love you."
"Promise?"
"I promise."
Bolstered by her absolute certainty, Little Bean went completely silent, bravely pushing forward.
The minutes dragged on like hours.
The atmosphere in the room was thick with terrifying tension.
