Lawrence stepped up beside the bassinet, casting a gentle smile at the sleeping baby.
"Congratulations, Lucian. The baby is perfectly healthy."
Lucian nodded, his tone calm and composed. "Thank you, Lawrence."
Charlene stood off to the side, wearing a soft, polite smile.
She leaned in slightly to peek at the newborn and added, "He's absolutely adorable. He has Seraphina's eyes."
She didn't try to steal the spotlight, nor did she act cold.
Her performance was flawless.
Right at that moment, Little Bean shifted in his blankets, stretching his tiny arms. "Mommy, Charlene is so fake."
Seraphina froze. She could still hear Little Bean's thoughts?
It was astonishing.
Was this the fabled telepathic bond between mother and child?
This was incredible!
It meant she would still get to listen to her little chatterbox every day.
Seraphina didn't say a word, simply averting her gaze.
Eleanor took a seat at the edge of the bed and gently took Seraphina's hand, launching into a stream of affectionate chatter.
"Seraphina, you've worked so hard. Giving birth is no easy feat. You make sure to rest well, and whatever you need, you just tell Lucian. Don't you dare neglect yourself."
"I know, Grandma Eleanor," Seraphina replied sweetly.
"And listen to me," Eleanor lowered her voice, leaning in conspiratorially. "If Lucian dares to bully you, you tell me immediately. I'll handle him."
Seraphina couldn't hold back a laugh, shooting a playful glance at Lucian.
Lucian shook his head in fond exasperation, though his eyes were brimming with adoration.
Standing by the bed, Charlene continued to maintain her pleasant smile, but the light in her eyes extinguished entirely.
