Seraphina closed her file. "Glad to hear it."
Melody stared at her, a flash of pure venom momentarily breaking through her poised exterior.
Landon clapped his hands loudly. "Alright, everyone, back to work. Submit your team preferences by tomorrow morning."
Before turning to leave, he threw one last look at Seraphina.
"I genuinely hope you find enough people willing to join your team, Seraphina. We all need to pull our weight to make this project a success."
Someone in the back couldn't hold in a snicker.
Seraphina didn't even blink.
She calmly turned back to her monitor and began re-categorizing the massive list of system vulnerabilities she had mapped out the day before.
Seymour hovered near her desk for a moment. "You're really not worried?"
Seraphina kept typing. "About what?"
"Everyone is going to jump ship to Team Beta."
She finally looked up at him. "If someone wants to leave, holding them hostage is useless."
Seymour was left speechless.
He suddenly realized that from the moment Landon walked in, Seraphina hadn't shown a single ounce of panic.
Her absolute indifference was starting to genuinely unnerve him.
Across the floor, Melody had set up in a temporary glass office. The door was left intentionally cracked open.
Seraphina watched out of the corner of her eye as a steady stream of colleagues lined up to pay their respects, kissing the ring with sickeningly sweet smiles.
"Melody, I watched your keynote at the summit last year. Absolutely brilliant."
"Thank you. I'm relying on all your hard work for this project."
"You're too modest! If I make the cut for Team Beta, I'll give it 110%."
"I’d be thrilled to have you."
Within an hour, Melody had practically bought the loyalty of the entire department.
Landon sat across from her, scrolling through his phone. "It's working perfectly."
Melody glanced at the door to ensure no one was eavesdropping. "Are you sure this is enough to crush her?"
Landon smirked. "Who said anything about crushing her?"
Melody frowned.
Landon crossed his arms. "I want her completely isolated. No team, no support. I want her to have to carry the entire technical load by herself."
Melody lowered her voice. "She might lack manpower, but she has Lucian. What happens if he intervenes?"
Landon’s smile turned lethal. "I'm counting on it."
Melody stared at him in confusion.
