Landon chuckled, pointing to himself. "Me?"
Melody didn't answer. Instead, she shot a venomous glare at the private nurse, who was kneeling on the floor frantically trying to clean up the mess. "Get out."
"Yes, Ms. Monroe." The nurse quickly abandoned the task and scurried out of the room.
Melody turned her attention back to Landon. By now, she had managed to rein in her temper.
She let out a cold scoff. "What are you doing here? I thought we agreed to keep a low profile and avoid being seen together?"
"So that's why you're throwing a tantrum."
Landon closed the distance between them. He stopped right beside her bed and suddenly leaned over, staring intensely into her eyes. "Hmm?"
His warm, damp breath ghosted across her face as he spoke.
For a split second, Melody's body went entirely rigid.
With her leg immobilized in a cast, all she could do was plant her hands on the mattress and awkwardly shove herself backward.
"What... what exactly are you doing here?"
Melody took a deep breath, forcing herself to look at him calmly.
Landon straightened up. "I came to see you."
"To watch your little performance."
"Performance?"
Melody blinked, then quickly realized what he meant.
"You're talking about the 'Rescue Heroine' thing?" She smirked. "So what if I orchestrated it?"
"I never actually claimed the title myself. It was the internet that made everything up."
She looked at Landon with a perfectly feigned innocence. "I'm a victim in all this, too. Even if Lucian wants to blame someone, he can't pin it on me."
"You've gotten smarter this time," Landon noted, pausing briefly. "And you cleaned up your tracks nicely."
Melody knew exactly what he was referring to: the survivors from the roof.
