Charlene looked suitably startled and clamped her mouth shut.
"We agreed we were coming here to have a nice dinner with Eleanor," Lawrence scolded her. "Save the pointless chatter."
"I know, I was just curious," Charlene mumbled.
"Alright, enough out of everyone," Eleanor declared, handing Little Bean over to Susan. "Let's eat."
The family stood up and made their way to the dining table.
As Landon walked past, he glanced down at Lucian's legs and offered a slick smile. "Need a push, Lucian?"
Lucian gave him an icy stare. "No."
Seraphina stepped up right beside him. "I appreciate the offer, but I'll assist my husband."
Landon smirked, offering no further comment as he turned and headed for his seat.
After a few steps, he paused and looked back at Seraphina. "By the way, Melody is still in the hospital. Are you going to visit her? After all, the two of you went through a life-and-death ordeal together."
Evie, who had been quiet until now, suddenly snapped. "Why would she visit her? That woman nearly got me killed."
She paused, her expression darkening. "She's no hero. She's practically a murderer."
Eleanor blinked in shock. Evie had come home very late last night.
The older woman had already been fast asleep and had absolutely no idea what had transpired.
It wasn't until she woke up and checked the news this morning that she realized a massive fire had broken out. Terrified, she had immediately called Susan at Lyra Bay.
Only after confirming that Seraphina and the others were perfectly safe had she finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"Evie, what on earth do you mean?" Eleanor asked.
Evie had always adored Melody. She constantly defended the socialite and had even bad-mouthed Seraphina on her behalf.
Why was she suddenly turning her wrath toward her former friend?
Evie let out a cold scoff and recounted everything that had happened the previous day.
