Victoria didn't finish her sentence, but the implication was loud and clear.
Victoria had been feeling slightly under the weather the night of The Gilded Heart Gala, so she had stayed home.
Truth be told, she had been quite satisfied with Sienna. The girl came from a decent background, knew exactly what to say to flatter her, and was always showering her with extravagant gifts.
Compared to Seraphina, she vastly preferred Sienna.
After all, the current matriarch of the Simmons family was Sienna's mother.
Meanwhile, Seraphina was practically a ghost in her own family.
So, if her son was going to marry Sienna, she was more than happy to give them her blessing.
But she never expected a scandal of this magnitude to explode at the charity gala.
The future daughter-in-law of the Sullivan family absolutely had to be a pure, scandal-free socialite.
Otherwise, the elite circles would rip them to shreds with gossip. How was she supposed to show her face in public?
That was why she needed to get to the bottom of this today.
Sebastian's brows pulled into a tight knot. "Mom, I'll handle it."
"Handle it how?" Victoria pressed, her tone urgent. "Half the city is whispering that the Sullivan heir's fiancée is an easy woman. Even your grandmother caught wind of it and is furious. Sebastian, it's not that I have a personal vendetta against Sienna, but we cannot drag the Sullivan family's reputation through the mud."
"Mom, it was a misunderstanding, and everything has been cleared up. Besides, Sienna is pregnant," Sebastian stated coldly.
Victoria froze. "What?"
"She's carrying my child. She's three months along." His voice betrayed zero emotion.
Victoria's expression shifted into something intensely complicated.
She sat in heavy silence for a long moment before finally saying, "Well, if she's carrying a Sullivan heir, we need to think this through carefully. The child is innocent, after all."
Yet, there was not a trace of joy in her voice.
Sebastian gave a curt nod, offering nothing further.
He needed to weigh his options too.
Retreating to his bedroom, he stepped out onto the balcony and lit a cigarette.
Through the swirling gray smoke, Seraphina's face materialized in his mind once again.
That brief glimpse of her at The Willow Grove was seared into his brain.
