Chapter 31
Colton and I sat on the porch swing as we waited for Becca to show up. I took in the large farm
house with a wrap–around porch.
“You have a beautiful house.”
“Thank you. I always wanted a big farm and when this one came available I couldn’t stop myself.”
Moments later, Becca came driving up the road. I watched as she and Abby climbed out of the car
and walked toward us.
“Where is Hunter?” She snapped.
“He isn’t here. But all of your stuff is here on the porch.” Colton said, standing from the swing.
Becca huffed but started to take her bags to the car.
“Hi Colt.” Abby said, stepping closer to Colton.
“Abby.”
“Can we ummm talk?”
“Nobody is stopping you.”
She glanced from him to me and back to Colton.
“Alone?”
“I don’t think we need to talk alone,” Colton stated.
“Please? I know I messed up, but please?”
He let out a heavy sign and looked over at me. “Do you mind Marie?”
“I will wait inside.” I said as I stood and walked into the house.
I was mad, but I really had no right to be mad. I still talked to Luca even if I hadn’t heard from him
almost a month.
The difference that kept running through my head was that I never picked Luca over Colton but he couldn’t say the same to me.
I watched from the window as Colton and Abby talked and talked. I watched as they smiled at each other and I even saw him laughing.
After 30 minutes, I started to get frustrated and sent a message to Issac asking him to pick me up.
Colton only lived down the road, so within minutes Issac pulled up to Colton’s house and I made my way out of the house and to the car.
III
“Marie?” Colton yelled)
I turned and just looked at him.
“What’s going on?” He asked, confused.
“You seemed busy so I figured I would give you all the time you needed to talk
He didn’t stop me and it made me mad. It was like he was choosing her again over me.
I got in the truck and smiled at Issac.
“You ok?”
“Yeah, I was just getting sick of waiting for him and Abby to finish a private conversation.”
“He’s an idiot.”
I just smiled and looked at the window.
Once at Susan’s and Charlie’s house, I followed Issac into the house.
“Where is Colton?” Hunter said, walking to me and handing me the keys to my jeep.
“Talking too Abby.”
“For how long?”
“A half hour.”
“Sh*t I’m sorry Marie.”
“Don’t worry about Hunter. But I will talk to you later”
“Aren’t you staying for lunch?”
“No, I don’t really have an appetite.”
“Do you want company?”
“Nah, I will be OK and I think Bella and Emily should be home by now.”
Making my way out of the house and to my jeep. Pulling onto the road, I saw Colton’s truck coming
in from the opposite direction but I didn’t stop. I drove to my apartment.
Getting home, I found Emily and Bella eating lunch. I told Emily all about my weekends.
“I’m sorry Marie.”
“I can’t really be mad. I talked to Luca.”
“Have you heard from him since Christmas?”
“No.”

Chapter 31.
I picked up my phone and decided it was time to give him a call.
The phone kept ringing and finally, just before it went to voicemail, a female answered the phone.
“Hello?”
“Hi, is Luca around?” I asked, confused.
“My fiancé is busy. Who is this?”
“Just a friend. Could you tell him Marie called?”
She didn’t respond, she just hung up the phone.
“What was that about?” Emily asked.
“Some woman answered his phone and said she was his fiancé.”
“What?” She asked, shocked.
“Looks like we know why Luca hasn’t called and never came back from Florida
“That just leaves you free now to have no baggage
I giggled. “True…….I’m going to take a nap.”
I laid down and could vaguely smell Colton still on my sheets. I rolled away and allowed sleep to
overtake me.
NNNNN
I’m not sure how long I was asleep but I woke up to banging and power tools.
I crawled out of bed to find Colton, Hunter, the twins and Charlie all working in our apartment
“Hey sleepy head.” Evan said, smiling at me.
They had created a doorway by adding an extremely large room which was being made into two smaller rooms, from what I could tell.
“Mom and Dad said adding the additional rooms to the apartment was a great idea” Hunter s walking over to me.
I could feel Colton looking at me, so I looked over and smiled at him. I watched as his worry left his
face.
It wasn’t fair of me to be mad at him for talking to another woman. It’s not like he cheated on me Even more, we weren’t together. We won’t be having our first date until Tuesday, when he said he wanted to take me to dinner.
I couldn’t believe the amount of work 5 men could get done. They only stopped to grab a quick bit to eat for dinner and around 8 that evening they decided they could finish the rest after work the
next couple of days
Charlie and the twins were the first to leave, Colton made his way to me.
“I’m sorry it upset you that I was talking to Abby earlier.”
“It wasn’t you talking to her…I just felt like you forgot about me.”
1
“I’m sorry I just got caught up in the conversation.”
“Yeah I get that….I had a date once that said the same thing when he left me sitting at the local
diner while he made out with his ex.”
“I didn’t do anything with her, Marie.”
“OK.”
He gave me a quick kiss. “I will see you tomorrow.”
The following day, I focused on work and before I knew it, I was climbing the stairs to our apartment. I had stepped out of the shower when I could hear knocking at the door.
I quickly got dressed and put my hair in a side braid and walked out to find all 5 guys back and already working.
Colton came right up to me and kissed me in front of his Dad, causing my face to turn red.
“Bout time, son.” Charlie said, smiling.
As they started working, I started prepping dinner.
I sat down at the island and noticed Colton’s phone. I swear he forgets this all over the place. I went to pick it up to take it to him when the screen lit up and saw a message from Abby.
