Chapter 35

Listen, Becca…. We are done. We aren’t going to be talking and we aren’t going to get back

together.

He grabbed my hand and we walked toward my jeep.

HUNTER!

We stopped and Becca came running towards us.

Becca stop. I can’t be with you. I just don’t love you anymore.”

She froze in her place. Why won’t you talk to me and try to work this out?

Becca, you slept with at least 6 other guys. Was I not good enough in bed for you?

You are amazing Hunter. It’s meI’m the problem.

For once, we can agree on something. The issue is you.

Hunter turned around and opened the car door for me and walked around and climbed inside and

started my jeep.

He pulled away, leaving Becca standing in the parking lot.

We drove in silence for a short time.

That felt amazing!he said.

You’re OK?

It felt so good for her to want me and for me to not want her back. For the first time ever

I smiled at him. I was worried but it looks like this is exactly what he needed to help him get over

Весса.

Good.

Don’t worry, Colton knows we are at the movies.

I wasn’t worried, but are you keeping tabs on me for him?

No, but he messaged me during the movie.

I bet.I said, smiling back at him again.

The next few months went by quickly. I spent Valentine’s Day with Hunter as friends but I would be

lying if I said I didn’t have any feelings for him.

It wasn’t like my feelings for Colton, but Hunter was like family.

Chapter 35.

We were both helping each other heal and for different reasons. He helped me rebuild my selfesteem and I helped him to realize he didn’t need Becca.

It was an unseasonably hot April day and I was busy working away in the kitchen when Susan.

asked me to work a few hours over. Of course, I agreed and a few hours later Hunter was

impatiently waiting for me at the front counter.

I can’t believe you worked over this Friday.”

Why?

Remember Colton left town with Dad yesterday and I have the house to myself. I thought we planned to watch movies and drink beer.

I didn’t forget we just had to wait a couple of hours longer than expected.”

Fine, are you almost done?

Yes, I’m just covering a break and then we can go.

I was busy laughing at the face Hunter was making and I didn’t notice Jackson walking in with a very, very pregnant Sophia. They had only been married 3 months and she had to be at least 7 months pregnant.

As soon as my eyes locked on Jackson, he stopped moving. I am guessing he didn’t expect me to

be here so late on a Friday.

Marie! It’s so nice to see you again. Daddy can’t stop talking about how much business your Cheesecakes have brought.Sophia said the moment she saw me.

I’m glad to hear that. I see the wedding went well.I said, nodding at her belly.

She giggled. Turns out I was 3 months pregnant before the wedding.”

All the feeling I had pushed down rushed to the surface and the realization of me being the other woman came flooding in.

I was on the verge of crying and Hunter grabbed my hand. Babe, aren’t you going to introduce me to your friend?

I looked up at Hunter and he smiled and then put his hand out to Sophia. Hi, I’m Hunter….this beautiful woman’s boyfriend.”

Hi, I’m Sophia and this is my husband Jackson.

Again hearing her say my husband, the reality of being the other woman threatened to show its ugly head.

It’s nice to meet you both. But I have a night alone planned with this gorgeous woman.

Oh, that kind of right? Sophin said, giggling and wiggling her eyebrows.

Maybe I can put one of those in her bellyHe said joking back.

My face turned bright red. Hunter!

He laughed even harder and I looked over at Jackson and he looked pissed. I couldn’t help but feel

some small bit of satisfaction.

How long have you two been together?Jackson anked.

Going on four months.Hunter said as I made my way to his side of the counter.

He quickly grabbed me by the waist and pulled me toward him. Pressing his lips to mine. I responded immediately and the kiss became intense.

We pulled apart and looked at each other and smiled.

You two are so cute.Sophia giggled.

Thank you.” I said not, breaking eye contact with Hunter.

You two have a great night. I know we plan on it.” Hunter said, guiding me out of the building.

We walked in silence till we made it to my apartment.

Thank you.

I will always have your back,Hunter said, smiling at me. Now grab your stuff, you can shower at my house.

I grabbed my bag and we headed toward his truck. Can you stop and grab a bottle?I asked.

Are you sure that’s a good idea?

Right now I need to not think about anything.

He gave me a worried look and pulled into the parking lot of the grocery store.

Anything else?

Do you have snacks?I asked.

I feel like you don’t even know me.He said as he opened the car door. But why don’t you call the diner and order some burgers for us to pick up.”

Hunter’s POV

I had a feeling tonight was going to be bad. I could tell by the look on Marie’s face the second she

saw Jackson.

While I was waiting in line, I figured I had better message Colton and tell him about the kiss I

shared with Marie before he heard it from somebody else.

Hunter: Hey wanted to let you know that jacka’s Jackson come to the bakery tonight and I kissed Marie and told him I was her boyfriend.

Colton: YOU KISSED MARIE!

Hunter: Did you not read the first part of my message?

Colton: Where is she now?

Hunter: In the truck waiting for me to get a bottle. I think she plans on getting sh*t faced.

Colton: Are you staying with her at her place?

Hunter: No, we will be at the house. Don’t worry, I will take care of her. Gotta go.

I knew he would be pissed but it wasn’t about him at that moment, it was about her.

As I climbed back into the truck she smiled at me but her eyes showed her sadness.

I can’t believe I am about to say this but….do you want to talk about it?

She giggled. I do, but I can wait to talk to Emily or Saralynn.

No, you can talk to me.”

Let’s wait till we get our food and I have some shots.

Deal.
