As if sensing something, Evelyn also looked toward the taxi, and the two women's eyes met in the darkness.
Evelyn slowly walked to the curb.
A luxury car was parked behind the taxi. A driver got out and personally opened the door for her. “Ms. Campbell, if you please.”
Evelyn lifted her chin and glanced at the taxi Stephanie was in, a hint of disdain in her eyes.
What kind of person was she, not even having a private driver? It seemed Jonathan didn't care about her that much after all.
Evelyn quickly looked away and smiled at her driver. “Cedric, I told you not to wait for me. It's so late, I could have just taken a taxi home.”
The driver immediately replied, “That would be out of the question. It’s not safe to take a taxi at night. The master and madam would worry if they found out.”
Evelyn raised her voice, though it was unclear who she intended to hear her. “Yes, they do worry about me the most.”
The taxi drove away, and Stephanie was lost in thought.
Jonathan and the Campbell family… She pressed her lips together and was about to call Cecilia when she saw a missed call from her an hour ago.
Stephanie immediately called back, but a man's voice answered.
Stephanie was instantly on alert. “Who is this?”
Having been friends with Cecilia for so many years, Stephanie knew what she was like when she drank. It was a disaster. Had some creep picked her up at the restaurant?
“Stephanie, it’s me.” Tobias sounded weary as he looked at the drunk Cecilia.
She was currently snoring on the sofa in his office. It had taken a Herculean effort to get the drunken woman in here without her disturbing the other guests.
Stephanie was surprised. “Tobias? Why is it you?”
Tobias said, “The restaurant you two were at tonight is owned by my family.”
