Next Man, Better Plan novel Chapter 295

For Stephanie to come to the office at this hour was unprecedented.

When a woman makes such an unusual move, it either meant she had developed feelings for the man, or she was in trouble and needed help.

Jonathan's gut told him it was the former, and a strange sense of joy bubbled up inside him.

Steven glanced at Evelyn, and Jonathan understood instantly.

It seemed Stephanie had seen him in the office with another woman late at night and had misunderstood.

Beside them, Evelyn, who had been wallowing in the sorrow of Jonathan’s rejection, was visibly stunned to hear Steven say that the woman had been here.

She had thought Stephanie was just some pampered wife protected by Jonathan, but it turned out she was a woman of action—one who, instead of stewing over a phone call, had charged straight to the office to find out the truth.

Evelyn said, “Jonathan, it’s getting late. I’ll be going now. Goodbye.”

Jonathan instinctively wanted to chase after Stephanie but didn't want to be in the same elevator alone with Evelyn.

He gave a curt “Mm” and turned back to his office to grab his coat and phone. While waiting for the elevator, he called Stephanie.

The call went through, but she didn't answer.

Jonathan called again.

This time, it rang twice before she picked up. He could hear the sound of wind through the receiver. Jonathan stood by the floor-to-ceiling window and looked down.

It was dark, and from the 88th floor, people were invisible, and cars were just tiny black dots like ants.

The other end was silent for a few seconds.

A smile suddenly spread across Jonathan's handsome face.

He could even picture the unhappy expression on Stephanie’s face.

It was strange. She had just left in a huff, yet he felt incredibly happy.

Just a few days ago, he was telling Tobias that he felt Stephanie wasn't falling for him at all, but now it seemed she was jealous.

Stephanie hesitated for a moment, then glanced back at the now-dark top floor and nodded. “Yes.”

Jonathan told her to wait, so she was just supposed to wait?

If she actually listened to him, he might think she cared that much.

Stephanie bent down and got in, gave the driver her address, then looked back at the entrance of Ironhold Investment Group one more time.

A woman in a black dress was just walking out.

The woman was graceful and elegant, and the first thing one noticed was her perfect, sensual figure.

She wore a tight black dress that ended a centimeter above her knees, revealing long, slender legs.

She was clearly from a well-off family. The bag she carried was worth at least five figures, her hair was styled in an updo, and even a simple clip in her hair cost thousands. Everything about her screamed sophistication.

Her makeup was flawless, every detail down to a single strand of hair carefully arranged. It was the kind of calculated “date makeup” designed to impress a lover.
