“Mom! What are you thinking? The Sanders family is respectable. How could I do something so despicable?” Tobias cut her off. “Stop letting your imagination run wild.”
Tobias had always been close with Jonathan, and the two bachelors had been friends for years. There were faint rumors in their circle that they were a couple.
But Mrs. Sanders knew her son was fine. Ever since kindergarten, he had always been chasing after girls.
But for some reason, as he got older, there were no girls around him, and he just got closer and closer with Jonathan.
Her son was more outgoing and talkative than Jonathan. Mrs. Sanders had always thought Tobias would be the first to settle down, but Jonathan had silently gotten married, completely lapping him.
She figured that since Tobias had always used the excuse that Jonathan was a few months older and still single to turn down the blind dates she arranged, seeing Jonathan living a happy married life must be making him anxious now.
Mrs. Sanders said earnestly, “Our family may be rich and powerful, but we can't force ourselves on girls. Your father has always said that we must not forget our principles. I just see you hanging out with Yves and his crowd, and I worry you'll pick up some of their bad habits…”
Yves was notorious in their circle for being a playboy. There was a story that he had his eye on a girl, got her drunk, and tried to force himself on her. But the girl fought back tooth and nail and even called the police.
Several of the other heirs who were close with Yves were no better in that regard, and Mrs. Sanders had a poor impression of them.
Even though such behavior was common in their circle, Mrs. Sanders ultimately didn't want her son to become like that.
Tobias immediately said, “Quennel is the one who’s close with Yves. I barely know them. Besides, your son is a good, upstanding young man. I’d never do something that indecent.”
Previous generations of the Sanders family had served in the military, but because Tobias was the sole heir, Mrs. Sanders worried that he couldn't handle it and started a business instead.
They had caught the wave of economic opportunity, and now the Sanders family controlled at least a quarter of Veridian’s restaurant industry.
From restaurants to numerous coffee shops, they owned both high-end and affordable brands. Whenever you went out to eat, there was a one-in-four chance you were dining at one of their establishments.
