“Emma, are you awake?”

Lucien’s voice was low and lazy, threaded with the kind of morning rasp that sounded like aged wine, smooth and sinfully warm against the ears.
Emma lifted her gaze toward him.
The memory of last night flickered through her mind. She shifted her sore body, then leaned forward and bit his chest without warning.
“Mmm…” Lucien let out a soft, theatrical groan.
“Emma, why bite me the second you wake up?”
Those bright, crimson–tinged eyes of his gleamed with mock hurt.
“Was I bad last night? You didn’t like it?” He dipped his head, inching closer.
“But last night you clearly said you liked it. You even said you liked me…”
“Shut up.” Emma clamped a hand over his mouth, cheeks flushed, eyes sharp.
Are those words something he could just say out loud right now?
Lucien blinked, then went still, properly cowed. He knew she’d wake up this morning ready to make him pay. After all, last night he’d coaxed her into saying and doing things she’d never have admitted in daylight.
He also knew that Emma secretly liked it.
She shot him another glare.
“How did I not notice before? You’re actually shameless.”
Those lines just rolled off his tongue like he practiced them in a mirror.
Lucien only laughed, tugging her into his arms again. His lips brushed her earlobe as he whispered, “Emma, that’s unfair. I’m very proper most of the time.”
His warm breath brushed her ear, and half of her body turned to liquid before she could stop

Lucien noticed, and his smile deepened. He leaned back slightly, his crimson eyes now calm
and intent.
“Really. It’s just that… in front of you, all my restraint falls apart. I can’t help it, and…”
That is cheating.
He was supposed to be explaining his lack of self–control, but it sounded suspiciously like a love confession.
Emma wasn’t buying it. She poked a finger against his chest.
“Save it. Those lines come too easily to you.”
She put on her best unimpressed face. “Now tell me. Where did you learn all that crap? Don’t tell me Silas has been coaching you again.”
You couldn’t really blame her for suspecting Silas. Corvin and Marcus had already been corrupted by him. Even Edric had fallen under his influence.
Lucien’s chest shook with laughter, the vibration running through her fingertip.
“This time you’ve truly wronged Silas,” he said. “I’ve spent most of my life in the army. It’s full of energetic males. You don’t have to study that kind of talk. You hear it enough, and it sticks.”
His gaze sharpened again, molten and intent, catching her like a hook.
“But before this, I only ever listened. I never thought I’d actually say those words.”
His voice dipped, rough and honeyed. “That is, until I met you… Then they suddenly had shape and heat.”
His fingers brushed her lips, calloused and electric.
“If you’re angry, then punish me,” he murmured. “Whatever you do, I won’t resist.”
“Punish you?” Emma removed his hand from her waist, arching a brow. “Sounds more like a reward to me.”
A house full of degenerates, really. I am not falling for that again.
Since they bonded, Lucien had been acting like his spiritual meridians were finally unblocked.
She moved his hand away, and he instantly slipped his arm back around her.

“Then call it a reward,” he said softly. “I want…” He held her waist. “Emma, reward me one more time, yeah? After this morning, it’ll be days before I can see you again.”
He couldn’t monopolize her forever. The others at home wouldn’t tolerate it.
“Reward you again?” she echoed, amusement flickering in her eyes. Her fingers traced his lips as she whispered near his ear, “But I only feel like punishing you right now, not rewarding you. What then?”
Lucien caught her hand. “Then punish me.”
Her brow lifted. “Any kind of punishment?”
He nodded. “Any kind.”
Perfect.
Emma’s mouth twitched, suppressing a smile. She leaned up and pressed a light kiss to his cheek, then abruptly pushed him back onto the bed.
She pulled out a strip of black silk and tied it over his eyes.
“I’m starting your punishment now,” she said. “This ribbon stays on. Unless I tell you don’t take it off. Understood?”
Lucien nodded immediately. “Okay.”
He really had underestimated her.
His Emma was… far too good at this game.
Obediently, he lay still, eyes blindfolded in silk, body relaxed.

Emma bit back her grin, slipped off the bed, and said lightly, “I’m going to grab something. Wait for me to come back. Until then, don’t move or take it off.”
With that, she pulled on her clothes and slipped quickly out of Lucien’s room, leaving him blindfolded and smiling faintly in the morning light.
