**When She Opened the Door to the Life She Was Afraid to Live by Nora Vale Kingsley**
**Chapter 460: I Found Them**
“Alright, you win! I’ll bite you, just to make you happy!” Emma declared, her voice playful yet defiant.
With a mischievous grin, she leaned in and sank her teeth into the opposite side of his jaw, leaving yet another set of deep impressions that would surely mark him.
Lucien turned to her, a satisfied smirk spreading across his face. “You really know how to make a guy feel loved,” he teased, his eyes sparkling with amusement.
“Now that I’ve given you a taste of my affection, are you ready to go hunt some beasts?” Emma asked, laughter bubbling up in her chest.
“Absolutely! I’m off right now!” Lucien replied, his excitement palpable.
In an instant, he scooped her up into his arms. With a thunderous sound, his magnificent golden wings burst open behind him, spreading wide like a fiery sun.
Emma couldn’t help but marvel at the transformation. Gone was the dark hue of his wings; instead, they radiated a brilliant fire-gold, each feather aglow with an intense flame that seemed to burn away all impurities in the world. It was a sight to behold, one that filled her with awe and a tinge of fear.
Before she could fully grasp the beauty around her, the world around Emma shifted in a heartbeat, blurring into a new reality. She barely registered the change as she found herself deep within a dense forest, the air thick with the scent of pine and earth.
Her gaze flickered to Lucien’s lightcore, the glow illuminating the darkness. She was astonished to realize that he had transported them from the cabin to this wild landscape in mere seconds.
He must have teleported, she thought, her mind racing with disbelief at his astonishing speed.
But before she could collect her thoughts, a putrid, acrid stench invaded her senses, sending a shiver down her spine.
A thunderous roar erupted nearby, shaking the very ground beneath them.
Out of the underbrush lunged a level 8 beast, its grotesque form dripping with venom that scorched the earth as it moved.
Even faced with such a terrifying creature, Lucien remained unfazed. He held Emma close, his grip firm and reassuring.
In the blink of an eye, the beast lay lifeless on the forest floor, defeated before Emma even had a chance to process the danger.
A vibrant green level 8 beast core materialized in front of her, floating like a prize waiting to be claimed.
“Emma, take it. We need to find the next one,” Lucien urged, his voice steady and confident.
As soon as she grasped the core, the scenery blurred once more, and Lucien’s voice echoed in her ears. “All done.”
Another beast core appeared, seemingly conjured from thin air.
He was moving faster than she could comprehend, a whirlwind of action and purpose.
“Emma, why don’t you go take a shower? I’ll whip up something delicious for dinner,” he suggested, his voice warm and inviting.
The room was equipped with a kitchen, and Lucien had already prepared everything Emma loved.
Yet, as she sat at the table, her appetite waned. She glanced at the chain adorning her wrist, a symbol of their bond. “Are you really not going to take this off?”
Lucien’s dark eyes held a depth of emotion as he replied, “Not just yet, but it won’t be for long. Emma, just give it a little more time.”
He felt the weight of his illness creeping back, a dark shadow he couldn’t shake. He longed to spend these precious moments with her before the inevitable happened. He would ensure she returned home safely before he lost control, determined not to frighten her with the truth of his condition.
Back in the castle, the moment Lucien re-entered the domain with Emma, Corvin’s voice rang out, breaking the tension in the air.
“I found them!” he announced, his excitement palpable.
“Lucien’s lightcore is now registered on Z1689, the closest star to the border. I’ve sent you the coordinates,” he continued, his fingers flying over his device.
Calum and Marcus jumped to their feet, adrenaline surging through them. “Let’s move out now!”
Meanwhile, as Emma emerged from her shower, she found Lucien had already set the table with dinner, the aroma wafting through the air.
She sat down, her gaze flickering between the meal and Lucien, who had fought valiantly against numerous beasts today, clearly exhausted yet still radiating strength.
