**When She Opened the Door to the Life She Was Afraid to Live by Nora Vale Kingsley 474**
**Chapter 474: Feeling Nauseous**
“Please, don’t be mad at me, okay?” Emma’s voice was soft, almost pleading.
Marcus, however, was not genuinely angry. Beneath the surface of his composure, a pang of jealousy simmered. Lately, it felt as if Emma’s thoughts and affections had been consumed by Lucien, and that realization stung more than he was willing to admit. He craved her attention, a moment where she would fuss over him, if only for a fleeting second.
But as he observed her delicate attempts to soothe his feelings, the tight knot in his chest began to unravel. The petty bitterness that had threatened to take root within him dissipated like morning fog under the sun. Without thinking, he leaned in, capturing her lips in a kiss that was deep and fervent, enough to steal her breath away. He only pulled back when he sensed her gasping for air. “Ms. Tibarn, you once told me we mattered equally to you. Don’t lie to me now.”
“I swear to the Beast God, I’m not lying,” Emma responded immediately, her heart racing. Internally, she released a quiet sigh of relief.
Thank goodness, Marcus isn’t too hard to manage. Just a few reassuring words, and he’s back to his usual self.
Once the tension had eased, Emma decided to circle back to her original question, determined not to repeat her previous mistakes. This time, she wouldn’t focus solely on Lucien.
With a sweet lilt in her voice, she gazed into his eyes. “Marcus, why are you here? Where are Calum and Lucien?”
“Calum and Lucien left early,” Marcus replied, his forehead gently resting against hers, a gesture that sent warmth coursing through her. “They had something to take care of. They told me to stay with you.” He leaned in closer, teasingly, “Ms. Tibarn, did you miss me?”
Emma couldn’t help but think, Calum and Lucien are still out there, fighting who knows for how long? I can relish this time alone with Ms. Tibarn before they return…
As Emma reclined against the bed, a slight frown creased her brow.
What on earth are Lucien and Calum doing, running off so early? Please don’t tell me they’re out there picking a fight again.
She had nearly drifted into a light doze when a sudden, sharp sting at her neck jolted her back to reality. Looking up, she was met with Marcus’ annoyed gaze, his expression a mix of disbelief and irritation.
“Ms. Tibarn, are you really zoning out on me right now?” His voice was tinged with genuine frustration.
Maybe my skills just aren’t enough. Is that why Ms. Tibarn can’t seem to focus?
“I’m not! I didn’t! Just let me defend myself. No, wait. Let me explain,” Emma rushed to say, her urgency evident.
My stupid mouth better not ruin this. I just managed to calm him down again.
“Marcus, just let me explain,” she repeated softly, desperation creeping into her tone.
“Explain?” Marcus let out a short, incredulous laugh, his silver wolf ears poking through his tousled hair. His fluffy tail, usually so composed, slipped out and wrapped itself around her waist, a playful gesture that sent a shiver of warmth through her.
“Ms. Tibarn, you can explain all you want. But I’m not interested in whatever tale you want to spin for me. I want you to show me your explanation.” His voice dropped to a low murmur, and then he leaned in, his teeth grazing lightly against the sensitive skin along her neck. The pressure of his sharp fangs sent a jolt through her, igniting a rush of heat that coursed through her entire being. “Ms. Tibarn, have you figured out how you plan to explain this to me?”
