After finishing the second piece, Calum suddenly felt his face heat up. His head went foggy. and he staggered his way out of the kitchen…
On the top floor, in the bedroom, Marcus slept soundly with Emma in his arms when he suddenly felt something nudging his chest. Without opening his eyes, he reached out and touched whatever it was, then pulled it firmly against him.
“Ms. Tibarn…”
The warm body he held rubbed against his chest a few more times.
“Tss-” Marcus let out a quiet hiss, his awareness sharpening slightly. He patted the thing in his arms again.
Wait–is this… fur? Ms. Tibarn’s head?
Marcus cracked his eyes open. Seeing Emma fast asleep on the other pillow stupefied him.
If Ms. Tibarn’s there, then… who am I holding?!
He snapped his eyes fully open, instantly wide awake, and looked down. An Argenclaw about the size of a large dog was curled in his arms, sleeping like a rock.
What the f*ck, Calum?! Are you out of your mind, sneaking into Ms. Tibarn’s room in the middle of the night to sleep in my arms?!
Marcus didn’t even hesitate–he kicked Calum straight off the bed, and a loud thud hit the floor.
Calum didn’t wake, but Emma jerked awake instantly. “What happened?” she asked, turning toward the now–sitting Marcus.
He’d been so irritated by Calum that he’d forgotten Emma was beside him. He immediately pulled her into his arms, lowering his voice in apology. “I’m sorry, Ms. Tibarn. I didn’t mean

to wake you.”
“What happened?” Emma asked again, still disoriented. “I heard a bang–did you fall off the bed?”
“No,” Marcus said, pointing at the floor. “It was Calum. I don’t know what got into him, but he climbed onto your bed in the middle of the night and curled up in my arms. He scared me so badly I kicked him off without thinking.”
Emma slipped out of Marcus‘ hold and leaned over the edge of the bed to find an Argenclaw lying sprawled on the floor, limbs spread everywhere, dead asleep.
She stared at Marcus, then pointed at Calum. “You kicked him that hard, and he still didn’t wake up?”
Marcus nodded. “Not a twitch. He’s probably knocked out cold.”
Knocked out, my foot.
Emma hurried down to check his condition. Marcus‘ kick couldn’t have knocked Calum unconscious–not with Calum’s ability level. Something had to be wrong.
“Calum, wake up.” Emma shook him gently.
He didn’t react. His breathing was steady, peaceful even… but he wouldn’t wake up.
Emma grew tense. She was just about to ask Marcus to examine him when she caught a faint trace of alcohol on Calum’s body. Did he… drink? she suspected.
Marcus smelled it too. He looked at her. “Ms. Tibarn, I smell the same scent as your brew from earlier. Did this guy sneak into the kitchen”
Emma pressed her ips together. “That would be my guess.”
She stood and said, “Watch him for a minute. I’ll go check the kitchen.”
“Ms. Tibarn, look at him–he’s not waking up anytime soon. Leaving him here won’t hurt anything. I’ll go with you.”
The last thing Marcus wanted was to sit there babysitting Calum. The guy had already ruined his night with Emma. If it were up to him, he’d toss Calum straight out of the castle.
Emma glanced at Calum, then nodded. “Fine, but move him onto the bed first.”
Calum was far too heavy for her to lift. Marcus didn’t want to carry him, but with Emmal asking, he couldn’t refuse.
